Google and firefox not friends?

Hmm.

Google.co.uk is constantly taking a long time to load on my computer, in Firefox. It's the only website that seems to do this.

And then every time I try to leave the gmail website, (Google mail), I get the "Firefox has encountered a problem and has had to close". Every time I leave the website.

Anyone else having/had trouble with this?

It's not Google or Firefox. It's you. Google keeps a list of unwanted people in their little black notebook. In it, they write your name and the way you're to die. Should they omit the way you would die, your manner of death will default to a heart attack.

Anyhow...seriously, it doesn't have anything to do with Google nor Firefox, although some Firefox plugins have been known to make GMail and the likes slower (i.e. : Firebug and other heavy-duty JavaScript plug-ins).

lol @ etheon

Also, what plugins/mods do you have to Firefox, if any?

Have you tried FasterFox? It's great.

But some plugins can mess with some sites.

Thanks, I've installed FasterFox now.

The only plugin I have is Firebug, but since someone mentioned that before I'm guessing that's the problem. Though I do always have it disabled, by default.

Instead of Firebug, try NoScript. It's fuckinggut8&Y*H(*&Y*HJI fantastic. I visit a lot of uhhh ... "intellectual" sites *cough*porn*cough*, and I haven't gotten a single piece of spy/mal/virus ware yet since installing it.

Sometimes it gets annoying to right-click and tell it to allow the site you're on, but that's fairly simple, anyway.

Firebug isn't for security / ad-filtering, it's for script debugging.  Ad Block Plus does an admirable job of blocking ads and obnoxious little java bits, I haven't seen an ad banner or Google adsense tidbit in ages.

Also, yeah, I have a problem with Gmail too, it's to do with the Javascript they're using in the new interface.  I haven't narrowed down the cause but it's probably firebug (despite me having it disabled for gmail), the web dev extensions or some other thing.  In any case, here's a link to the old UI: https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1 just replace your bookmark with that for now.  I can barely tell the difference between the two personally.

Firebug slows down GMail, simply because it analyzes, logs and profiles any JavaScript being executed; GMail has such a sheer amount of JavaScript being executed on load (a bit less once it's loaded), that Firebug goes crazy and starts eating opium, hence the slowness. Well, technically, it's a bit more complicated, but boiled down and vulgarized, it's all opium.

I end up with the same problems even with firebug disabled, though.  Does it still passively dick around like that even when disabled or something?
