Good Music Editor?

Does anyone know of a good FREE music editor in which a few of the following conditions exist?

Keyboard Can be used as a piano
Many different instruments are available
Has a decent guitar distortion sound
You don't have to buy it to export files or save them
Can make decent length songs
Has multiple tracks

I would appreciate if most if not all of them were present, but if you have one that you recommend, then that would be nice too, but remember. I HAVE NO MONEY!!!! so it has to be free. >.<

Thanks in advance.

fl studio has everything you want. the demo is free. it never runs out, you just can't save files. don't confuse that with exporting mp3/midi/wav. you can export audio files, you just can't re-open and edit your song once you've closed it.

don't believe all the negative hype that you're bound to get about it eventually, either. most everyone who talks down about it is either (a) not using it right / not using it to its full potential, or (B) a protools fanboy.

AHAHAHA WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER you are so cute :3

also alcohol 120% is cd/dvd mounting software not an audio editor

Keyboard Can be used as a piano

most DAWs and standalone VSTis allow this.

Many different instruments are available

soundfonts and VSTis :3

Has a decent guitar distortion sound

record your own guitar or spend $600 on prominy. good synthesized electric guitars (especially distorted ones) don't exist.

Can make decent length songs

a song is as long as you make it???

Has multiple tracks

every DAW ever is multitrack i'm pretty sure.

nothing in music is free, and what is free is typically shitty (not always but that is the rule of thumb). check out FL Studio or RAPTURE (i think that's it).

Finale Notepad 2008 can create and edit MIDI files. It is completely free, and you can include up to 8 tracks of combined instruments. The music can be as long as you want, but you can't play it into the computer with the keyboard or anything. I think it still has a special playback mode that allows it to listen to the music being played, and then copy the style the player(s) use(s). To get Notepad '08, you have to register here:

Yeah, I discovered FL a while back on the advice of a friend. As a former Garageband user, it's pretty mindblowing; my only problem with it so far is that I'm not able to find a good church bells/orchestra chimes voice, but I'm sure that's just human error. I'm pretty sure I violate both sections of (a), myself, but I still don't see anything to critique about it that buying the full version wouldn't fix. So far I've only been able to get the piano roll to do my bidding, but what I do have sounds good for an amateur attempt and leads to fanciful thoughts of what an FL wizard could do. Of course, the demo tracks that come with it confirm those thoughts.

That said, not being able to save your music is more inconvenient than you might think, especially when you've got a refurbished laptop with a battery that gets on average one minute of power per percentage point. I think it's as good as free demos get, though, and upgrading to a full version is relatively cheap (under a hundred bucks, I think, so long as you don't go for the more professional bells-and-whistles models.)

I've got a synthesizer in my room that I can't transfer music files to/from even using YAMAHA's MusicSoft program that came with it.  Once I do, though, I will be on to making my own music.

Audacity +(Lame.dll) + FL Studio (Free Version [export as midi]) + Anvil Studio (Edit Midis) = Uphoria. And it is Free. Multitrack editing and synthesizing. Great stuff.
