Golden Age

1000 years? why not 648 and 1/4? Or last century or something...

Don't you know? Stories that has an evil dude/lord/thingy that is defeated/sealed/f***ed a while ago always start 999.85 years later.:P

Anyways, simple yet cliche story. The simple 4-character story/party grates on my nerves (I always have 6-8 characters in my games)... and drakath... Dude, that sounds so familiar and a tad bit generic. HAve you every played dragonfable? I just keep remembering dragonfable when I heard drakath.

@ Durastik
It's not exactly a thoasand years, but I made it that because after the rise of Drakath and his son, most of the population sailed away on various vessels, they found a new province of land and settle it. so it is pretty far through their whole timeline of life or something...

@ Daxis
WTF is dragonfable?

If it was a 1000 years ago, why not refer to it as th 'old age' or something like that? It'd be more realistic. I mean it's like me saying, "1000 years ago, King Henry I was born". I mean while it's an accurate way to explain it, saying he was born in the 11th century is far simpler and easier to understand.

I mean, your players are going to work out that an event from 1000 years ago is going to be of importance, regardless of how it's i dated, because you mentioned it, it's obviously important to the storyline. So why not actually make it more believable.

Aside from that, I'll keep an eye on it.

Peace

I got rid of the old screenshots I had and put up some new ones, they're on bb.xieke.com so they aren't resized at all. also added a new character bio for Atheus

Just something I felt I should point out - the name at the top left corner of the message box needs something to help make it stand out. It's the same size and font as the text (which is pretty small) and is thus fairly easy to miss. Especially if placed against a bright background, like snow or sky. Also, the words cover up the corner of the message box. Some people mightn't care much about it, but personally I feel it detracts from the aesthetics of the message box.

Another thing, there's a typographical error on the message displayed inside your second screenshot - you forgot to capitalize the first word of the sentence. Of course, for all I know, it could be the continuation of an earlier sentence - but if that were the case, I'd still put something like an ellipsis (triple dots) to mark it out.

As for the 1000-Years debate which seems to be taking place, it is indeed perhaps too much of a coincidence that a major event occured exactly 1000.000000001 years ago, unless the date has some sort of direct spiritual, religious or otherwise supernatural significance (I'd say scientific as well, but I think it's pretty obvious there's going to be little of that stuff here). But since that's sort of unlikely, what's more probable is that whatever event happened, occured close to 1000 years ago and was rounded down simply because the speakers were lazy. In fact, that's probably what happened, seeing as it's listed in Kale's profile as "over 1000 years ago". It's not hard to note that in nearly every fantasy, years are always rounded to a nice, pretty number ending with a zero or five, unless they're a one digit number. Of course, it might not always be that pretty a number in actuality.

As already stated by some people, having a cliched backstory does not always make for a bad game. It IS quite possible to pull it off, but not easy, since it's already been explored in many different ways. So if you want to excel the game in Story as well as Gameplay, it's probably going to be a hard job. The end Story result of this project will reflect your creativity and intellect plus all the work you put in. The same goes for all games and their respective creators, but will be more obvious here, simply because a large percentage of players will already have prior knowledge of this type of story and all the twists it can take - this is just something you should keep in mind.

To make it clear, I am in no way attempting to deter you from continuing this project.

You raise some good points, I edited up the coding so the name is now a little larger, and black text. And that's not actually a typo, it's the font.

Now I'd like to make it clear, it is said to be 1,000 years ago, because during that time the people were under the reign of Drakath, and everyone was basically slaves so records were not kept. It is more of an approximate date, and besides it's never, and I mean never referred to as 1,000 years ago in game, it is called the Old Kingdom. Another cliche I know but what else am I supposed to call it?

This looks quite nice.
I actually like the simplicity of the text on the title screen. I think it's pretty against the background.

A word of advice: The second town you have linked, maybe you could add those windows with the flower pots/plants on them to give the houses more color. It's like a mass of brown.
But that's just because I really like colorful games . A little touching up (more random plants/flowers/grass/rocks/etc) and you'll have really good maps. Keep up the great work.

Also, maybe you should post some features you're planning on including? That's my favorite section of posts (other than the screen shots). Just a suggestion, you don't actually have to
