I have a Paladia morse or whatever its called back when 7/7 flying tramples weren't a dime a dozen. got a nightmare too. pretty sure its the original release.. but i dont really keep track. point is u gotsa lotta old stuff..

The way to earn cards is to go to a Friday Night Magic event near you. $15 gets you 3 boosters and an evening of fun.
Then if you win you take home FREE prizes!
I've never done Friday Night Magic. But I went to the Shadowmoor/Eventide prereleases (my first ones ever). Nothing feels better than getting 12 Boosters of a new set for $20 and having an entire day of fun.
I started playing like... 8 months ago? I've probably spent $200 since then. Not really something I regret taking into account the fun I had doing it.

Oh, and when buying bulks, make sure that you actually have things you need in them. Not whorth it otherwise.
if i had a car i would probably go to drafts and stuff a lot more often. also if i wasn't fucked up socially. when i'm at school i try to go to them and get rides with the people i play with. i love drafts (especially the deckbuilding part, deckbuilding is my favorite part of the game) but unfortunately i really havent done as much of them as i'd like

i'm really excited about my box of tenth because as a whole it's a badass set with lots of just generally playable cards. a while ago, when it first came out, i bought a box of odyssey, and then onslaught, legions, scourge and mirrodin. i stopped after mirrodin because i hated it. i love getting the boxes though there's something totally awesome about ripping through like ten boosters (a lot of the other boosters i get i usually just draft with them with some friends for fun but keep the cards) the latest box i got was planar chaos which i split with a friend (my half had TWO DAMNATIONS i ended up giving him a serra sphinx because i felt bad for getting both of them)
with the onslaught cycle it was great to opn the boosters and then just make some really solid theme decks with the cards i got (considering the creature type theme was so heavy for those sets it worked really nicely). mirrodin sucked becuse the theme (Artifacts) was TOO heavy. the tenth box will be fun because it's my fist time getting a box of a core set, and it's far less themed and more just GENERALL GOOD CARDS. i'll probably make a couple of new decks but for the most part i'll be using the new cards to improve the 16 or so decks i already have

pfff that's no fun. one of the funnest things about magic is creating decks based around what you have. noticing trends and patterns in your cards and working with them. deckbuilding with limitations is incredibly fun and it has led me to some of my best decks (which i improve later by adding some singles for example)
