Love the shoulders, try making the outline a bit darker and use a different colour background (normally a complete opposite colour like green so we can see the sprite better).

take it off the red background first off so we can see the the sprite

form what i can make out it looks good needs more contrasting outlines to define certain areas, but not a bad start. however, don't get in the habit of mimicking blizzards designs. They're horrid o_o

Also, when drawing a side-view of the same sprite, do you just have to wing it? Or are there any tricks to ensure that it's cohesive with the forward facing sprite?

Did you use a WoW model viewer to shrink and take the armor image out and paste a head on it? Because the sprite contains 236 colors and looks resized O_o If not... you could definitely reduce the colors and add a neck to the characters head =P (referring to the .gif)

Don't use .bmp for pixel work, you lose things that way >_> it also adds colours, blah blah blah.

When drawing the side view, I keep a front view shot on the same level so I can keep the heights of clothes about the same level. They don't have to be perfect because of the perspective.

No I didn't shrink the WoW model. I did a poor job of changing the background, so it looks botched. What is the best file format for sprites?

The abundance of colors comes from the level of detail I was trying to put into it. I'm still learning, and it's hard to figure out how to make some things more defined, especially since I picked a rather intricate model.
