Game Maker Studio .NET

Hey all,

Does anyone use NearFantastica's Game Maker Studio .NET program, or know if it is still being supported by anyone?

I just found out about Game Maker Studio yesterday, and I'm pretty excited about the possibility of breaking away from RMXP's slow engine and gaining the ability to port games over to XBOX360 with ease using this tool, without having to give up the user-friendly front-end of RMXP.

So, I'm thinking about switching over to this new tool, but after reading up on it, it seems that the Game Maker Studio project has been dead for over a year, or at least it has no community left - which wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact that there isn't much documentation on how to use it or how to get a new project up and going.

So does anyone know what the deal is on Game Maker Studio?  And I'm surprised not many people use it, since it offers some pretty cool options!

It's not been released.  If I remember correctly he set up his CTP's so they wouldn't work past a certain date, so you can't even use those.

I'm fairly certain that Near Fantastica is still working on it though, both from things I've heard from him and from people who know him.  Near's just the kind of person who doesn't report on things unless he has something to show for it (and he keeps getting swept up in XNA's next "big" release, and pushing GMS.net's release back further).  Thus he has essentially let his community die by lack of updates.  I'm fairly confident that he will eventually release it, it just may be awhile before that happens.

Though when it is released, it will be amazing.  It's basically RMXP that has been improved upon in almost every conceivable way.  I was initially going to wait for GMS.net to come out for my project, but after realizing that it may be a long wait, I decided to go with RMXP.

Yeah, I'm sure Near is still working on it. The problem is,
he keeps getting swept up in XNA's next "big" release
I'm waiting for this since 2005, back when he was working on Game Maker Wizard or something like that.
And as Plubyblop said, these little "time bombs", as Near like to call them, makes the demos impossible to use.

GMS.net seems to be more of an upgraded, more flexible RPG Maker, and AGM seems to be taking a whole new direction on things.  (which I'm liking so far)

If GMS.net takes off, and AGM turns out to be a good editor (especially for action RPG's), we may see RPG Maker XP become obsolete in the next couple years.  If things come together right.

Also, knowing how people are with RPG Maker, GMS really has no chance without any kind of standard graphics pack. He had a competition going on here a year or two back, trying to put together an RTP for his editor, but I guess that fell through, since I never heard anything about it.  He also mentioned in his blogs he was trying to buy the rights to use Enterbrains RTP's, but I haven't heard anything since that.

If he has money, he could probably commission original graphics to make up his own RTP.

There was a demo/CTP a while back. It's expired now, since Near liked to set dates on it.

I'm not sure if it's being worked on right now.

There is no download as has already been said. The only release was a demo, which had a fucking timer on it or something that made it unusable after a certain date.

Provided, you could always set the date backwards- and disconnect from the internet. However, the program didn't do much. It was pretty much a simple mapping unit, with nothing else.

I find it hard to believe that a company would purchase code for a program largely unworkable.  From what's been said there wasn't much there, my guess is he just lost interest.

You have to consider that it isn't a company at all- Just a one-man operation. He's not selling it (I think), so he's not even a Micro-ISB.
