Frequency: New Title Screen! 22/7

I tried a little experiment, where I drew out a tile object, scanned it in, redrew in photoshop, and scaled to make a sprite. My result was this:

It didn't take too long, and I should be able to get several items sone at once when I get the hang of scanning thing (my scanner is brand new, very little idea of how to get the most out of it)
I'm imitating the style of Jet Set Radio and The World Ends With You, with thick, angular lines, and high contrast.

Well, I'm not a fan of your style. But may I at least suggest you re-draw the shadow?

Also It looks pretty flat. Maybe you could include more shadow on the right side?

Yeah, the flatness is intentional. If I do it right, it should all look like an animated comic book. =P The placement of the shadow was an oversight, but it's easy to fix.

Thinking about it, I don't always need to scan things in, I could always take the RTP, blow it up to around 5x or so, and trace. It'd make doing those complex roof patterns much easier.

OH HEY THIS LOOKS A LITTLE FAMILIAR

Blew up the original to 4x size, used the same technique as before, and tweaked it a little to make sure it tiled properly.

The colours are wrong, however (I don't want to use pure black on background objects, the shade of brown gives the impression of wood over stone, etc.); so I'll be working on that in the meantime.

Looking good?

Allright! A softer colour scheme, and a palette variation. As the colour of the road tarmac will be a darkish grey, I also did a variation with a cream pavement and grey edging. All I need to do now are those inside corner tiles, and I'm in business! =D

And as a bonus, some equipment images; the basic gear Airon will have equipped at the start of the game.

Edits of varing severity from TWEWY Clothing sprites. Goddamn, I'm glad that game exists; has helped me with enough resource and concept development...

I like it, nuff said.

Though if you feel like something's missing, try putting the character in front of the 'electricity' and move it up, so it goes behind his head.. Then, mock-up your menu options, which are now located under the title, (feel free to make it as stylish as you can, there are dozens of scripts that can help you perform it for real) and check if you still feel something's missing.

I personally refrain from putting the text underneath the menu options, because you read from up to down, so naturally you'd focus on the thing that's most up. However, this title feels solid, so I'm sure you can also pull it off this way. :]
