Free Maya?

I have just recently learned that there is a free version of Maya, which is the PLE (Personal Learning Edition). It can be found on Autodesk's sight for those who want to know, but for those who know already, I'd like to ask a simple question: what DON'T you get (to do) with the PLE?

Being "personal learning" I would guess it is designed for you to learn how to use the program and that is all. So you are most likely not allowed to release anything you make with it, whether for free or for profit.

well, yes, I know that much. I have also heard that you cannot save whatever models you make, but I think otherwise. I'm not sure

Yes, I have heard of the watermark. thanx, Fallofthetyrant, for clearing that up.

Kraft, it's a big file. It's taking a half hour to download

if you want something like Maya, try Blender, it's free and I think it's a quite nice
program, plus they got so many tutorials in their site that you'll learn how to use it really fast

Well, I've downloaded the PLE and am playing in it now... but i've heard about Blender and something called: "Milk Shape"?

But as for Maya, how do you create a basic shape, that's colored?

Don't fool him, now. Blender is not for the faint of heart. Really...

it's free, it makes 3D, it exports as .obj, Blender is nice, but dude, the interface is so.... AGH!

700 of the buttons you'll never use, there's like... 7,000,000,000 hotkeys? XD

When you figure it out, though, Blender is hawt. Maya is overrated, get 3Ds Maxx.

@Edit: Aran, rendering makes the model look pretty XD

I thought it was the other way around. That 3ds was overrated and Maya was the in.

Blender, for a free program is quite nice, plus the new version (2.43) got new tools.
And you can even program your own game engine using python script.
I used it together with Zbrush.
I used Maya a couple of times, I think 3ds Max its better though. Maya and softimage are much more useful for movies.
