Fragment/Union

Hello. I am P1-G3, but Dr. Rachel wants me to call myself "Rotegen Damascus." I do not understand why, because it is not my name. I do not have a name. This is my journal.

Dr. Rachel told me to keep a journal because it will help me understand myself. She also said that backtracking through old entries will allow me insights into the events that transpire in my life. I do not exactly understand what she means, but I have taken her advice.

I have never told a story before because story telling is not part of my protocol, but Lila tells me that I can do anything that I want to. I want to tell my story, but I do not know how to do it so I will start from the beginning.

Fragment/Union is a story told episodically, a story about Rotegen Damascus, a naive boy with a journal and a love for knowledge; and Lila Heartspell, a sheltered but outgoing girl searching for fun and good times in a world tragically similar to our own.

This serves as an introduction to the modern world of Disparatus and an introduction to two characters that fall victim to reality and disillusionment. The first episode is expected soon.

The United Provinces is the cultural and technological center of the modern world. Run by the human race, it consists of a vast and diverse empire founded on bureaucracy and corporations. Though its democracy is sometimes thought to be a facade, most citizens of the UP don't seem to care. The government largely stays out of the everyday lives of its people.

Orka is located in the frozen north of Disparatus. Its entire populace of several million is packed into the largest city in the world--Viadahn, an ancient titan of a city built into a hundred mile long canyon in the arctic rock. The reclusive Orkan race inhabits Viadahn. The religious-driven population often conflict with the atheist United Provinces, especially for technological supremacy. But Disparatus just emerged from a bloody world war between the UP and Orka, and nobody is ready to fight again. In the open.

Svaldon is a micronation in the Rose Islands. It is a small human-run country with a world-famous school of engineering and a powerful navy and air force. The Svaldics usually stay neutral in global affairs, particularly because they can't stand against the superpowers of the United Provinces and Orka. Svaldon is run by a prince, Prince Jorvik VII.

This list will be populated as more characters are unveiled.
Lila Heartspell

A strong-spirited and passionate young woman of 16 years of age. Or 18. Or 17. It's hard to determine, and she'll never give a straight answer. Lila is isolated from the world and trapped in a place where she is given no respect and no life--no life other than menial labor. She dreams of leaving, seeing the world, and seeing people. Lots of people.

Rotegen Damascus

A quiet, inquisitive youth kept carefully behind closed doors. His lips are closed in a usually stoic silence, but his eyes are wide with wonder and intrigue.

Episode One: Alterhand (coming soon)

Sounds like an interesting concept. One thing that bugs me is how you have someone who is sheltered yet outgoing. Seems to be a bit contradictary to me. Unless you mean she keeps her feelings guarded but makes an attempt at fitting in, but I don't get that impression from her.

Ah, a poor word choice on my part. Lila is sheltered from the world due to her unusual living conditions. She's unable to normally interact with other people her age, so when such opportunities arise, she's energetic and enthusiastic.

But I should say no more and let the story describe itself. :)

P.S.: Thanks for the post, it's very encouraging.

Umm...you left me in a bit of confusion. I think you should do a back story because you basically just have a random person talking about something that no one would really care about. If someone just walked up to you and spoke those lines you'd think they were fuckin crazy.

The back story comes in the form of the first episode--with each episode, the topic will be updated with new information instead of spoiling things before they happen.

And thank you, djrodrix. I don't intend to disappoint.

I don't think you're understanding me.
You have NO SETTING. It's almost mandatory in any written piece. Without a setting you basically have characters in a void space. Time periods, locations, weather conditions, hell something that gives us a scene.

You have to admit that it piques (is that the right word) curiosity, you want to find out what's happening so you play the first episode, perhaps that's what he was aiming for. Anyways looks interesting but I would like something to look at rather than a few short paragraphs, pictures would make a big difference.

I like it so far, the way little hints about the world are hidden in the writing is very well done and as roaringsasuke said; it peaks the interest. Could he be a robot?
