someone explain to me why the fuck people play this game? how the hell is a game about not actually playing a game so god damn popular? how is it at all interesting/fun to just manage a team?

i understand that the world outside the USA has an irrational love of soccer (which i call it so because i'm american). just the same, i love american football, but i could never imagine just playing a game where all you do is buy/trade players and GOD DAMN IT PACO YOUVE FAILED ME FOR THE LAST TIME IM GETTING A NEW GOALIE! it jsut has to be the dullest thing ever.

to anyone who gets into FM: why not just play a game like winning eleven or something where you manage your team, AND actually play the game?

How can you push it when you haven't even played it?

My answer is because football (soccer) is the most popular sport on the planet and having the ability to create and manage your own team from scratch and make your way to the champions league shows you have the ability to manage a football team (Consider the modern versions of these a flight simulator program but for managers) to some degree.

Also the majority of this forum will probably agree with you as it is a forum based on rpg's.

Because Winning 11 games have about 3% of the teams/players that Championship manager games do. Therefore you're limited to what you can do and it would get boring very quickly.

i tried playing it. it took a while before it actually hit me, and i realized that the game is just a truckload of menus.
what i want to know is how the hell is it even fun? i mean, you can build the most badass team ever.. but then what? Oh. they won the best team in the world trophy =D you never get to really play games with the team.
theres just no gameplay buried underneath it all.

The modern versions have simulated matches that you can actually watch and I'm sure take part in somewhere along the line.

Also because modern gaming involves heavy mutiplayer ability so they can take their team and compete against other managers all over the world. I think this discussion is based strongly on opinion rather than facts. What kind of answers are you expecting from people who actually play the games?

Plus, I think this plays off of the Fantasy Football craze.  Simulated gaming I guess is fun.
