Fon template & RTP -A wip-

Welcome to the FON template and RTP thread, the template is now a work in progress.
I'm determined to see this through this time around folks, you'll just have to wait and see if you don't believe

Tips, please read!
***Some simple tips for anyone looking to sprite on this template or any other.***

.Draw shadow under hair when and if you sprite any (look at example character).

.Don't be afraid to draw outside the outline, remember this when working on shirts and pants (look at example character).

.Use the darkest skin color of the template for your darkest shade if you want more contrast in certain spots.

.Keep your light source in mind, top left, top or top right (i'll be using top left).

.Don't use pure black for the most part, because it will stand out too much against other colors and the tilesets.

.Use more contrast between your main colors, by this i mean that you should be able to see the outline(s) for the hair very clrearly against the base color of the hair, same for any other piece like clothing etc..

.Don't go too bright or use too much saturation, it will be up to you to make the call or open a thread asking for advice, all i can say is that it will look bad if you go overboard with this.

.Compare the template frontal and side when you work on a character, notice how the template side is at a diagonal, and notice how the arms, legs, body lines line up compared to the frontal.

For the most part keep your lights, shadows and line work solid so we can tell what's really going on with the outfit you create.

Follow the template shadows for certain pieces of clothing you make, see how i used a darker shade for the bottom of the pants same as the template is shaded, doesn't look flat this way.

Try to keep it clean, take it slowly and keep it simple at the begining when working on the
outline, later on you can add more strands of hair (same for clothing) if you feel you need them.

Start out with the scalp mark (and a reference picture if doing fan work)
thinking of the head/body as 3D will help you make better characters, save your work once in a while in case you cant undo enough (think of doing this especially for MSpaint)

work on following the body lines/ body zones to create a better look.

When working with clothing that is not baggy stay pretty close to the outer lines of the template, this does not mean follow the lines exactly though, you should go over a few pixels here and there to make the clothing look more natural, try to stay away from the "painted on" look which i see many people do when starting out.

The view angle of the barrels/pots compared to the character and walls is completely different. The sideview of the character is strange compared to the average character sprite since it's turned to the front a little.

Appreciate the comments guys.
It's mainly the barrel and pot (mainly barrel) i know exactly what to do.
Just need to take one or two pixels off the top and it should be cool, with this angle (especially the side angle i'm using) you should know that some things will just look a bit strange, I will work hard on this thing though stay tuned ^^

I've taken a pixel off of the top of the barrel (as well as a few other edits), pot and stool, will up pic soon.

Screenshot added under other, what you see is a one pixel change for the pot, barrel and stool, the window has been worked on a tad more.
I also change the wall color to a darker shade for now, ah the difference a pixel change can make, gotta love spriting ^^
Back to the temp i go!

E!
Just came to mind, I will be working on some diagonal walls now (after temp work)
E-
RTP list updated.
**
E-
I'm going ot try something more with the tileset, starting with the barrels, check back once in a while ^^
**
New barrel created, look up.
If anyone wants the old one, pm me for it.

Love your style of spriting...
I'll wait to put my hands (Mouse) on it
I'm going to do lots of sprites ^^
Congrats WA.

P.S.: Can I try to do something in this front frame?

I put them up so you folks can test them out ^^
Male is about complete, just need one more frame for him and to tweak some little things, the rest should come quiker as i have to do more editing than anything.

Okay, I did a simple guy and edited (A little) the female front frame...

We have different styles, so it isn't great like yours.

Love the look of that character, the pants have a weird design for the bottom half though, can't fully make it out.

Already made a small edit to the female legs, the waist i don't want to shrink though because it kills the sd look a bit, want to keep things somewhat thick ^^
I'll probably make a few other small edits to it before i begin working on a side frame.

E-
Forgot to add, male is complete.
--
e-
Deleted old tile pictures, more to come soon.
--
e-
Updated female frontal and side frame added to top, still need to work on adding removing a pixel or two ^^
e-
Increased forehead light brightness on both.
**********
As i've got the female standing back and side frames i decided to work on the frontal for the obese male, look up.
Ears have been edited since this picture, smaller now.

I think you could place the nose (It's a nose, right?) a little to the top (One pixel), it makes the impression of a mouth '-'

Yep nose, moved it up by one but it didn't feel right to me, if it bothers you feel free to move it up for your character sets (or mine when complete).
This gives me another idea for facial expressions and face types actually

as i've almost completed the female i will release the male now, let me know what's up if you see anything wrong.

Heinze: I will get back to you soon with some tips, hope you don't mind that i re-create your character though, this is the best way i can help.

Do wht you want
It will help me, so I think it's a good idea :

Alrighty ^^
I will get to those comments/tips soon, i have not been on the whole day and i want to work on completing the female, or more of her before bed.

Have a nice day/night all.
----
updated frontal frames added to top, mainly for obese male, i've made his body wider by two pixels.

e-
Female complete, expect it soon, i just need to tweak away for a bit.

e-
Female added to top folks, worked later than usual to finish it ^^, let me know if you see anything odd/wrong.
I can now get to the character frames others have worked on, as well as some first frames for the rtp before the child and obese body types.

here are some simple tips that may help you guys, i will add these to the top soon.
I will add more to this as well, and as i'm still learning myself i welcome tips from you guys as well.

-Some basic things to keep in mind-
.Draw shadow under hair when and if you sprite any (look at example character).
.Don't be afraid to draw outside the outline, remember this when working on shirts and pants (look at example character).
.Use the darkest skin color of the template for your darkest shade if you want more contrast in certain spots.
.Keep your light source in mind, top left, top or top right (i'll be using top left).
.Don't use pure black for the most part, because it will stand out too much against other colors and the tilesets.
.Use more contrast between your main colors, by this i mean that you should be able to see the outline(s) for the hair very clrearly against the base color of the hair, same for any other piece like clothing etc..
.Don't go too bright or use too much saturation, it will be up to you to make the call or open a thread asking for advice, all i can say is that it will look bad if you go overboard with this.

.Compare the template frontal and side when you work on a character, notice how the template side is at a diagonal, and notice how the arms, legs, body lines line up compared to the frontal.
I will draw a color guide for body sections soon.

e- i will lessen the colors on lukan soon, except for a few soft colors there are a few extras i did not remove when editing shades.
----------
Here's a quick body guide for you guys, it will help you when making clothes and armor, now you can easily see the different sections for arms, forearms, stomach, and chest, i also outlined a basic scalp marker, use this when first making hair.
This is the basic guide for the female and the rest of the temps too guys.

The start of the warrior character (RTP), just wanted to show a bit of the work in progress for the hair. I will try to add something more detailed for hair and clothing later on.

e-
Extra heads have been added to top post, smaller eyes and no nose.
Copy and paste these.
e-
another set of eyes added for you folks, if you don't like the standard look feel free to switch 'em with these (or create your own of coarse) ^^

Liked the guide, I'll try to use it to make a outfit for this template
So, where is the pallete?
I can help you with FON RTP, if you want =B
thanks guy ^^

I will organize the colors for the warrior character set in a bit and upload that, i feel it has better colors than the example charac (i have to edit those colors soon).

Appreciate it man, i plan to work on the entire rtp by myself though, if i have others working with me the differences in styles and skill levels will hurt the look in the end. I'll be looking for folks to help me with recolors after that, wont be a fast job since i'm also using desaturated colors and slightly different color types once in a while.

Warrior frontal complete as you folks can see from the sig, dark mage started on already too
**
Here are the colors i used for the male warrior, know that i used these with the darkest color of the template, look at the example to see how i used that.
e-
They are (from left to right) hair, armor, color used for boots, armor design and head strap, eye colors.
Colors-wm.png

Showing off two of the first characters for FON run time package, a better look at the warrior and the wip on the first frame of the dark mage.
2FONRTPCHARACs-wip.png

For you guys looking to work with this template and have your own characters fit with mine, notice how i use that dark skin color on clothing, hair and clothes.

e-
A little update for the Dark Mage, hair color has been changed, rope belt added, changed color of face mark, lowered bottom of sohulder pads by a pixel.
These are the main things changed

e-
White Mage female frontal almost complete, a simple outfit for this class ;)

e-
WM-f frontal completed, started on Fighter female last night, will upload the frontals when i have a few more completed.
e-
Female fighter frontal complete, working on second skin color for male and female, then i will start work on child temp.
**
Second skin color added for male and female.

<3333 Another amazing template, by you. I can not wait to see this RTP completed!
I wish you luck, and I will fiddle with it as well

 (OoT) Wow I was gone a long time..lol
