FlyFF Offline Project

Greetings everyone. I have decided to start a project for FlyFF offline. To anyone who has played Flyff it is a fantastic MMORPG complete with customizable stats 3 jobs with 1 upgrade each and the ability to travel through the air on a board or broomstick.

The battle itself is ABS so that wont change. The tilesets will be of my own design, but until then i will use the RTP, so NO WHINING!

as for the online part, i may include it only for PvP and nothing else.

More pictures will follow soon after the charsets are done.

Your comments are appreciated.

FlyFF was boring, after about a week. Making an offline version might be interesting. If you give it a story, and some character depth you might have something. I don't see how you'll do the whole PvP thing considering it's offline, unless you have someway to transfer the character data...just thinking about it sounds like it will get complicated.

~Good luck

The story that was behind the game was pretty thought out. Im taking that story and weaving it into the game. All of the quests will tie to the main story and not be something stupid like the online version.

For instance, anyone who has done the Clockworks mission will note that you can do this many times. I will probably do this mission as the last quest in the game. Clockworks was in my opinion the final boss in the game, and didn't pose too much a threat like it will in this one.

On a side note, the first draft vagrant charset is almost finished

ok here it is courtesy of the Flyff website.

A long time ago, the Five Gods of Lais created a world called Roika. In Roika there was an abundance of life in its waters and its lands. The Five Gods brought forth the Human race after creating the plants, animals, and the other races of Roika. The Gods of Lais did not wish to be revered by the humans. They preferred to have a simple and harmonious relationship with them. Roika was truly then a world of peace and balance.

After some time, the Gods of Lais decided to leave for another world. In order to preserve the beauty of Roika, the Gods of Lais handed over the land-revolution method and the core part of the revolution-genesis-gear to the kind race of the Dwarves. At the same time, they also created the Comedian-Clown who was able to bring harmony and happiness to the inhabitants of Roika. With that, Roika retained its luster even after the departure of the Five Gods.

However, the Comedian-Clown created by the Gods of Lais had difficulty in bringing happiness to all the inhabitants of Roika. To help him with the task, the Comedian-Clown split itself into three personalities - Ipuli the Master of Intellect and Imagination, Bobor the Master of Light and Color, and Shelid the Master of Shadow and Desires. There was a time when the three personalities worked in harmony to provide happiness all throughout Roika.

But one day, Shelid was consumed by the dark nature of the Shadow and started to lust for power and the control of Roika. There was one who stood in the way of Shelid's domination of Roika and that was Bobor. To get rid of Bobor, Shelid deceived Ipuli by telling lies about Bobor's intentions to control Roika. Convinced by Shelid's statements, Ipuli went after Bobor. Ipuli created numerous fierce and magical creatures to help him chase away Bobor, but Shelid was able to control the creatures and use them to complete his plan to dominate Roika. Under Shelid's influence and power, these creatures turned into monsters and took away the revolution-genesis-gear from the Dwarves.

While in exile, Bobor sought help from the Human inhabitants of Roika to destroy the evil creatures plaguing the land and stop the chaotic rule of Shelid. He passed on the Mystical Arts of using Strength, Intellect and Compassion and the Magic of Flight to man. From then on continues the struggle of the warrior-citizens of Roika to bring back peace and balance that was once abundant in the world created by the Five Gods of Lais.

As you can see, this is a complex story. Why it fell through in the game is beyond me.

And this story is the main reason everyone "hates" clowns.. All the pun intended... But really this sounds like an intresting story, I may try it when it is out, good luck on it!

Just a small update on the game.

Story - 100%
Tilesets - 5%
Characters - 20%
Scripting - 1%
Sound - 100%
Music - 100%

Now for the credits:
First offI recently looked over DerVVulfman's 8 Direction script and assimilated it into the code using Tana's big char templates. It works beutifully.
Secondly, to all the hard working spriters out there who compiled RO character sprite sheets. You helped me along massively.
Lastly, I wish to thank all comments GOOD and BAD. It is this reason games take direction.

Usually the reason storylines fail in games of this kind is because players are too busy trying to get rich. Most MMO games have fantastic storylines but they're forgotten about because of the abundance of special items and side quests that give special items.
Ragnarok Online is an example of this. It has a huge story line, but players don't really bother with it. Most are more interested in killing a certain boss over and over just to get the MVP items and then sell them.
You could also think of it this way.. a storyline has to have an end. How do you put an end in an MMO?

Woo i quit flyff since may. Story was pretty boring at the time, mostly becuas eit was never mentioned in game. It changed now of course. After getting a lvel 100 knight a level 77 blade and a level 62 rm, i only heard the main story from scenerio quest.

Most of the online games have no story flow during the game...

This is quite good coz it will have a storyline... BUT!!! The graphics will surely go down right?

Whoa, good luck with this! Screenshots please!

There should be a few screenshots (hopefully) by the weekend. While this is only the beginning the custom windows, tilesets will probably not be in the beta shots. I am working double overtime to produce custom everything myself so ANY help will be appreciated.

One note that someone asked me is I will be using RO style charsets molded into my own design.

As for the storyline: The story will intertwine into the game as much as possible, I want people to come back and play.
The leveling system will be TOTALLY revamped because the online system is such a headache.

Currently the demo will mainly consist of the prejob vagrant quests. I think this is a good cut off because you will get an idea of where you are in the story and how you will make a difference in the world.

BTW the job quests will be MUCH more intense than before. You will work for your job and not just kill things for drops.

I hope this has been a little more enlightening and I would appreciate help in the design process. Any and all help is accepted, but only serious inquiries please. I don't want to waste your or my time. With that in mind I'll see you all again next post.
