First-time spriting; looking for advices on improvements.

In all fairness the saturaton isn't nearly as bad as the symmetry. I realize that in the concept art she has a knot or bow or watever in her sash that throws the design slightly off balance. But I suggest you make the design symetrical , for easier animation. You can always add the knot/bow later.

aside from that I'd say work on your color choices, desaturation would help, but in some cases the outline is done a little slopy, and distorts the intended shape of the figure (The hair especially)

it would be easier to do animations for it if it was symetrical. yes... But! You gotta think that. Sashs, long peices of clothin such as a cloak and what not are not gonna be Symetrical all the time, some of it will be offsetted more then the other side. Just looking at it in a more realistic way. I think it looks awsome. Just colors are abit too vibrant. so i do agree with desaturating the image. Over all good job :D

Which is exactly why I said HE/She should add the sash later, after he /she is done with the symetrical portions. (which is the bulk of the design)

Let me simplify it . Most of her outfit (in the concept design) is more or less symmetrical. She has ribbons on both sides of her head and her outfit is the same on both sides, etc. The only thing that’s really off is the sash. If you animate her without the sash, it will be easier because you'll be using all the symmetrical parts.

When you're done with said parts,THEN add the sash, since it is indeed asymmetrical. Get it? Work smarter not harder.

I don't mind you being contrary ,prexus, but know what the hell you're talking about if you're going to "correct" me .In no way at all did I say it was bad to be asymmetrical. What I'm suggesting is a method that will not only make the sprite simpler for a beginner, but save him/ her a crap-load of effort in the long run.

Oh my fucking gosh someone other than me has seen air TV!!!

Anyways although in the reference pic she looks like one leg is in front of the other, it shouldn't look like that in the sprite. That may not have been your intention but the way the clothes are aligned it looks like it.

Showkaizer: My point is that even the dress can be asymetrical. Not everyone wears their clothes dead center, and robes/hanging garments are especially bad for very often finding their way to the side as opposed to sitting dead center always.

This person obviously did a good job with the shape/position of the clothes and accessories, and is obviously competent. There is no reason to say that they should change their style to a boring and redundant style when their style actually sticks out and is, in my opinion, very very good.

I just think the color could use a bit of work, desaturation maybe, but not too heavy. And like Kaizer said, some of the outlining is a bit messy.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback guys~! I'll keep them in mind when I work on this. :)

The adding sash later thing is probably a good idea. And I ty Roar, I just noticed the leg-part shading thing. Will fix that.

P.S. Any advices on doing the outline? I keep screwing up on that part. :/
