I'll never understand why people love this loosely connected series of menu simulators. Final Fantasy is barely even an RPG. I don't know, maybe I am just too old to understand :smoke:

I wouldn't say 'True RPG', since you are using pre-made characters and can never really chose things for them. It reminds me more of an interactive story with some RPG elements.
The reason I play these "loosely connected series of menu simulators" is because they're easier on me than when I play Computer RPGs and have to have quickness to attack my enemies. XD

I didn't enjoy 9 as much I as did 13, 7, 8, or 10. I love the game but it's probably my least favorite out of the FF games that I have play. 13 is so my favorite.
Well think about it, it's still an RPG, but there's two seperate types...
There's the Western RPG (WRPG) such as Dungeons and Dragons etc. where you craft your own character, give them their own story, and roleplay till your hearts content, such games are Oblivion and Fallout, since you create your appearance completely, get your own gear, make your own money, do your own sidequests, explore at will, and drift away from any story the game could possibly have, they give you a chance to feel the freedom of a videogame, do things at your own pace etc. etc.
Whereas Japanese RPGs (JRPG), such as the Final Fantasy series, put you in the role of a character, where you play through their storyline, finding out about their past and present etc. I guess you're right, they are sort of interactive movies with RPG elements thrown in them, but they're looked upon by tons of people who treat them as the milestone of all RPGs, I guess it just depends on which way you look at it,
To me, the Final Fantasy games will always be RPGs, well, the first 10, after that they've gone a little loopy with their systems, and now they're just trying to be a mashup of, well, too many things bad in the world...
In either case, Final Fantasy IX is miles ahead of XIII in terms of, well... everything...
