with that last one, i meant to have him talk like that, it's supposed to be funny.
and i have better stuff to do than to try to please people who haven't even said a single nice thing to me, or about the game, or anyone for that matter. now, if you were my friend, or wanted only one simple thing fixed, and not the whole thing, it would be different.

Well I guess you've made your choice then.

Next time let's not waste the community's time with immature antics, ok?

If you require all input to be sugar-coated, pureed, and spoon-fed to you, I don't think you should be posting your games online. We have a thing we do here that involves telling people what they've done wrong so that they can fix them and avoid making the same mistakes in the future. We give credit where credit is due, but there isn't a whole lot of credit due here I'm sorry to say.

If you're making a game just for your own amusement or that of your friends, fine. There's nothing wrong with making a game just for fun; you don't have to aspire to be the world's greatest developer to enjoy a hobby. However, if you're deliberately not striving for quality, you really have no grounds to complain when people don't like your game. This forum is critique-oriented. If you're not looking to improve, there's not really anything here for you. Perhaps you should just distribute it to your friends instead.

That said, if you DO want to make a game that other people will enjoy, stop being so defensive and we'll be happy to help you. Everyone started somewhere, and there's no shame in not being an expert as long as you're willing to learn.

okay, I am going to give you so feed back. Calm down. There is a difference between a troll post, flaming post, constructive and non constructive criticism. If people post in your topic it means they are reading your topic, but even if you disagree with someone, go ahead and read it. Don't get defensive, because I, too, used to be like that and who knows what idea someone might give you. Your mapping isn't the worst in the world (trust me, I was far worse), but reach out, talk to people and find a way of playing. There are people who can be your friend here, as long as you are willing to be nice and open up to them. Not everyone is going to like one thing or another, but if you stay true to what you want, who knows they might like your ideas.

I do say that the only person you should please is yourself, no one else. I am going to give my feed back about your game. It clear that you want a funny game, nothing too serious which is not an entirely bad idea. However, I do suggest that you just look at the mapping guide and see if you can improve. Take a step back, take a deep breath and if you are serious about a new start, show it by your actions. There's no point in getting defensive, no one is attacking you, but just stating their opinions. Who knows what you might learn if you just read and your might find some wonderful inspiration just by something a single person says.

(^_^) I hope you understand what I am saying. Because I do want you to have a new start, I think we all need that at times when we've made a few mistakes. Believe me, I used to have an account at Gamingw.net (an old site that's called: Salty...(._.) whatever now), but I was just like you and was really defensive. I left that site, but grew up a little bit, wasn't so defensive.

Sorry about all this harsh feedback, Bob. I just wanted to let you know that not all of us here are rude or mean to our members.

Your game is actually quite interesting! I really love the creative pixellated title screen, not only is it aesthetically pleasing but it evokes a feeling of nostalgia. I'm glad you included the note about not stealing from Final Fantasy, because that would be plagiarism and very bad, LOL ^__^

The storyline is cool, too. I like elementals! They are really interesting and can create a lot of variety in your games. For example, I really loved exploring a myriad of places such as forest temples, water dungeons, and fire caverns from Zelda, OoT. I hope you incorporated all of these brilliant, original ideas in your game!

Finally, the mapping and grammar aren't too bad. I like the serenity in the forest scene; the river really adds a natural feel to the map. Your gigantic house makes it seem like the hero lives in a mansion, but that's good, because everyone likes rich protagonists! Also, I really don't know what those punks are talking about. I found that one line "If has 10 mythrilz, i make Ultima Weapon" hilarious!!! XDXDXD :haha:

I hope you make plenty more sequels to this, because it's pretty much flawless. Don't worry about everyone else's opinion, because as long as you and your friends have fun, that's all that matters! Keep it up! :thumb:

Hey man, in all seriousness yeah i think you need to work on your game. Even if they are for your friends, there is always room to improve. There are a few things that really turn off many people even in other forums. One thing is grammar; even if it a joke you should you correct grammar. "LOL CRYSTALZ" are usually not very funny at all. I personally think that the best kind of humor is witty, well thought out humor. I always point out these examples but the best place to look for this type of humor are the paper mario games or the later RPG Mario games. I think those exemplify humor in the best way for a new developer. Parody games are like the worst kind of games. Bad mapping + lol crystalz jokes = a very bad game. Even if you are trying to be funny, there are a jillion times better ways to do it.

Yeah I know you keep saying that you dont need help on your mapping, but as a mapper myself, I can tell you that you need some help. Another thing that turns off a lot of people is bad RTP mapping. Its something everyone goes through. I would definitely go for the Mapping Improvement Thread. There are things I dont think you are thinking about right now such as symmetrical mapping and the incorrect use of certain tiles. It would make your game x10 more attractive if you learn some decent mapping.

wow...um...thanks...i never thought anyone would say anything like this about one of my games. My games are nowhere near flawless though. the huge house thing is fixed in the sequel. im actually surprised and glad that you like my game. as long has someone out there recognizes that im learning and getting better, i won't stop making games. if you want to see the original FFXP, and how much i've improved it (hence the "Re"), the click here:

and this is after i added an intro.
it used to be worse.

@macon
Alright, i'll look into it.

Awesome Bro

Looking at your previous game actually puts this one into perspective. It is clear to me that you have improved, but there's no need to stop improving! Keep working at your mapping (and your grammar) and I think you can make a truly great game one day. Like I said before, the best place to start improving would be going through that tutorial I linked you to. And feel free to ask the members of the HBGames community for help! We will be happy to assist you!

Wow, I see you have improved much. I feel like you haven't reached your full potential, though. For example, your language and dialogue could be so much cooler if you used creative words instead of referencing Legend of Zelda or using offensive words like B**cht*ts (omg like I hope that isn't the old man talking XD). Seriously, though, who is this kid and why the hell did the mayor choose him to save the village? Isn't that kind of cliche? Not that I don't like archetypes (I mean all the Final Fantasies were super awesome!!!) but you really need to add some creativity rather than copy and merge every single commercial jRPG into one silly amateur project!!!

i never used that word, the person who posted it named her that, and that is supposed to be her talking.

@tobacco goldfish
I treat people the way they treat me, but if i haven't met them, i try to be nice.

Sequel after sequel made upon a license you don't seem to understand.
You're really not that different from Square-Enix. :v

Also, for something constructive: Next time you make a game, avoid using anything made by someone else. It might just work out better.

Sorry, for not being constructive, it's just not the first time I ran into this guy. Here's what I posted on RPG Revolution:

It's amazing that you've finished game, and you should be proud of that. Now you should focus more on learning how to make an even better game now that you've got that milestone out of the way.

And I still believe that. Looking back, my post in this thread is probably the opposite of what I wanted to get across, but it still stands that this thread will get a lot of views, comments, complaints, and in the end I'm not sure if anyone will benefit.

Also, for something constructive: Next time you make a game, avoid using anything made by someone else. It might just work out better.

He just needs more practice and more focus. I don't think whether or not he calls it Final Fantasy or Ultimate Fiction matters.

You have a point there.
anywho, i finished Re: FFXP 2, and posted the link in the first post if anyone cares.

It's kind of the case, i tried to make remake a bad game to make it a semi-good game, but it's not all super serious.
has anyone ever played Disgaea? The dialog in it isn't always serious, so thats what i tried to do.
