i doubt this will affect sales much at all.
japanese people are still the #1 jrpg buyers, and even there, the demand for traditional rpgs is slowing down.
i do agree that sony needs to get its act together and start getting some more exclusive shit (AND FU9U8U(y*hubjnKING RELEASE [HOME] GODDAMNIT FUCK YOU SONY), or else its sales will most definitely start to plunge even more. But FF in particular, unless it totally LEAVES sony altogether, will probably not skew profit margins in any noticeable way.
Now if Dragon Quest jumped ship to Microsoft, then Japan would immediately start jizzing all over XBOX. We never think of DQ since they've only released a few of them in the states and FF is a bigger influence here, but in Nippon, DQ owns every game ever. Companies actually give out entire vacation days on DQ release dates. Every store sells out of them entirely. I heard that even some schools close for a day on their release dates. Japanese people fucking spooge liquid platinum at dragon quest.
PS3 is hard to code/make compatible/whatever for I hear but the hardware has a lot more potential, so I hope that they start getting their shit together.
I'm going to get a 360 anyway eventually, but you have to realize that 99% of xbox "exclusive" shit also comes out on PC a few months later, is always better, has better graphics, and better controls. I always just buy the PC version.
(also: asking Kojima to port a game to XBOX and foresake quality????? yeah fucking right, he may be an indignant asshole but he's one of the few people in the biz to whom QUALITY is paramount to profit)
