There is already remake of original Final Fantasy.
Your point?

Anyways, here's the latest version of the weapon shop:

Bacon, he's trying to do the actual map in VX. But a door does need to be added. In the actual map the carpet stops at the wall. So why can't the VX redo?

The difference is that the tiles are smaller than VX and VX isnt 8 and 16 bit graphics. Trying to duplicate an old school game exactly looks bad. Improvise with the tilesets, VX graphics are not old school.

I would switch the armor and box, but thats just me being nitpicky. It just seems tucking an armor in the corner that is for sale seems rather odd. o:

When I saw the title, I thought this was Peva's FF game which is named the same and is also a remake of FFI using VX.

I'm not trying to discourage you from making this game, since it can help you learn how to use the program, but I thought you should at least be aware that this is already being done by another. As such, when you're making this game, think about how you should proceed to make it different from the original and Peva's remake. Think about what you can do to make it stand on its own two feet.

Again, my intention is not to completely discourage you. Though, you might want to consider a title change. Good luck on this project!

I've played FF 1 about 607 times. NES, GBA, PSX, PSP, it's a fun game.
But I don't think I'd really be gung ho about downloading a version for VX when I can either emulate it or just grab one of my 4 copies. I think you should put a big spin on it.Maybe explore the storyline more. What exactly happened to make Garland do all the nasty things he does. Why was the bridge from Corneria destroyed? How many villages has Bikke plundered before you and your party destroy his crew? What's up with Maytoa's broom sticks?
You know, stuff that adds content.
Just my thoughts.
Best of luck!

This is honestly the first person to say something truly useful. If you want to garner a good response in an RM community, don't make a fan game - especially a remake. However, considering your adamant nature in making this, it would be wise to attempt bringing in some fresher content, not only in story - but in gameplay as well. The reason being, as many have stated, the game has been out for 20 years, been played a hundred million times on five different systems, and the fact that it's in RMVX isn't going to convince anyone to play it.

I think you should continue to teach yourself the engine, and this is no doubt a good route to take. However, you can't honestly tell me it inspires your creatively when you just take story and gameplay that's been done for you. If you can branch it out, add your own creative flair to it, this could be something to learn from and gain valuable experience from - regardless of it's reception on a silly little web forum. Most of the people here aren't trying to discourage you, but help you. They just have their ways of saying things. Anyways, good luck, dude.

I'm finally starting to get satisfied with what I've got going with Cornelia. I'm very easily frustrated, so that's why this took me so long to do. It's pretty far from done, but I figured I'd let you guys see what I have so far so I can hear what's wrong with it:

You didn't have to copy the house where that empty space was =) I mean you can, I was using it for residence. But yeah it's getting pretty good. You want to know my secret? I got the maps from the NES version and pretty much traced over them. Though I did make some original maps.

Hope that helps!

I've thought a lot about this project, and decided it's not going to be a remake. I've started up a new concept for a story, and I'm starting to grow fond of it. I'll update my post when I feel like I'm ready to.

Wise decision, with the lots of version of FF out there (even one for VX), making just another plain remake would be really a waste of time.

One thing that you could try to pull of is the origin of the four light warriors. They're come from far away to cornelia... but from where and how? The player explore the whole world and there's no sign of their origin.

Atoa, thats what the other version of FF1 for VX as linked a few posts above does, atleast as far as I know. But it is a good idea. I still would like to see stuff about how Garland came to be. Maybe even a prequel or something?

This game doesn't really look like it's gonna work out, and if it will it will be a long time.

First of all I don't understand the point for completely remaking a game in almost a same exact fashion. That's not a fan game, because a fan game has the same or similar characters, or plot, but a different story. Yours is the same exact thing. I voted the third choice, at this rate, you'll get it done in about a dozen years. Also, I saw you arguments with zchin131 on the first page, your arguments were weak, like 'INCOMPLETE map'. wtf, if it's incomplete why the hell are you posting it.

also your maps suck; they're too plain and empty. The new weapon shop looks better, but still bland.

There's this thing called reading other posts I've made. It's not going to be a complete remake, I've started writing my own story. When I finish, I'm going to update the main post, but until then, your going to have to actually read.

You made a good decision by start writing your own story. A sequel or prequel to the first final fantasy can be pretty good. But make sure your story is interesting, your maps are from at least decent quality and your game systems are well balanced.

Then why haven't you even updated your first post?

It's the exact same storyline as the original Final Fantasy.
I never really read through the other posts because I tend to think the other posts are criticism when the first one has all the info. -.-"

Anybody using facemaker will never finish a game I'm willing to play.

It's a good choice that you decided to make your own FF instead of a remake. But I really care to ask, if you're gonna go as far as making a whole new story up. WHY NOT MAKE A WHOLE NEW GAME WITH DIFFERENT STUFF? :D :D :D I think you can do it!

Here's one I did a long time ago...

Corneria.png

When I made it, I created it tile by tile, exact width, placement. The only slight variation might be the tree/bushes because the VX ones are slightly different. It's really not hard to do. Even the npc placement was spot on. It doesn't take much effort.
