Graphically it's about on par with RMVX games, it's not impressive but taking it for what it was originally a mobile phone side-game, it's good. They didn't try to bog the game down in too much crap and make it overhyped. It was a small mobile phone game that garned some attention in the west so they released it on WiiWare to be safe. Now I'll admit the price may be a little much but I don't mind. Graphics are about the same as FF6 in style, like the character sprites and battle sprites are the same size unlike in FF1-5.
The story is good a particular highlight is Kain's story because it mirrors Cecil's from the original game but sort of gives it a different twist, where Cecil was fighting and defeating his darkness, Kain had to accept it as a part of who he was and not try to run away from it. This was well written I think.
The music, not so great. There is not a single track on this entire game that hasn't been used in FF4 already. This pissed me off, I know I said it's only a mobile phone game but the music was no different to the DS remake versions. This annoyed me a hell of a lot, because even Before Crisis had a whole new soundtrack. Don't get me wrong I like the use of old music but I wanted to hear some new tracks, like maybe a theme for Ceodore or for the Mysterious Girl. Big let down.
Gameplay, the gameplay is much like an advanced version of the FF4 gameplay with additions such as the Band technique which was good, and the meter that shows casting time e.t.c. I'm glad they've added a few new things without completely changing or over complicating the battle system that was such a huge trademark of FF4.
Overall I give the game 7/10. As a mobile phone spin-off/side-story/sequel or whatever you want to call it, it's great. However I do think the WiiWare version should have at least done something about the music. I was very entertained and intend to download all the chapters are they are released over here in Europe.
See, now this is what we wanted to hear, not a whole fucking arguement consisting of cheap ass goons spamming that it's too expensive...
Well I'm thinking of getting it myself, since it'll be one of the ONLY good games I'll have on my Wii (I despise most Wii games, lol), I see you're comparing the graphics to FFVI (6 for you people who can't do numerals...), which means if anything, that's an upgrade from the original, lol. I'm not bothered if there aren't any new songs on the soundtrack, I actually loved the original, and it was great to hear all them songs again on the DS remake of this.
Marc1k1 said it's $37, right ? Well that's only £20, which, over here is darn cheap, considering games can range from £35-45 on release...
Just a question for anyone that HAS played it to the end without bickering about the price or whatever...
How long did it take you to finish it ? Is it long, cause RPG's tend to be, but since it was originally a mobile game, I can't see it being TOO long.
Either way I'll be getting it though.
