FF3 (NES) on DS

You assume you're going to be dissappointed but are still going to purchase the game... Mkay. Like saying "I'm going to buy the game to complain some more." haha.

First of all, it is after all a remake of my favorite Final Fantasy game, and one of my favorite games of all time in fact. Second of all, you never know, even after all this ranting, I may enjoy the game. I'm willing to try to overlook the disappointing changes.

Also, I never said I was going to buy the game. I might, but only after either renting it, borrowing it from a friend, or playing a demo of it somewhere.

Then make a new game. If you’re making a remake, REMAKE THE GAME.
EXACTLY! FFIII DS is not a port! It's a re-make of the original. Adding personalities of the characters, improving the storyline, changing the art style, improving the graphics, that's what re-making a game is all about. What you want is, a port of the game to DS, and you are mad that instead of them porting the original, they are re-making it.

And keep in mind, very few developers of the original are working on the remake.
Hiromichi Tanaka, the game designer of FFIII is the executive producer & the director of the DS remake. (Sakaguchi was the director of the original, and is the only key developer I can think of that is not involved in the DS remake.) Kazuhiko Aoki and Koichi Ishii, other key developers from the original, are also supervising the remake to make sure it doesn't changes drastically and it stills feels like the original.

As you can see, the remake was not thrown to the hans of random developers. Most of them are the CREATORS, and they know much better what they do with their own work.

I’m sorry to say but in my opinion, Square-Enix has failed doing that. They’ve forgotten who they were and have resorted to making second-rate games.
Square always made bad games. They were terrible before the first FF, and they made crap games during their "golden era of RPGs". Yes, many of their latest projects are second-rate games, but that's because they are trying new things with mainly new teams. They still develop good-quality games pretty often.

This is a disgrace to see the first overseas retail version of Final Fantasy III in the form of a greatly altered game.
I remember the director saying in one interview that the fans shouldn't expect the game to be greatly altered, or they will be dissapointed.

In my honest opinion: Final Fantasy III DS is a terrible remake of the original.
It's not your honest opinion. hell, that is not even an opinion, it's pure guessing.

I'm a collector. Even if a game is bad I don't mind buying it because I enjoy collecting games.

This is just opinion. I found Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Brave Fencer, Einhander, Threads of Fate, Tobal No. 1, and Bushido Blade to be great and unique games (especially Einhander; one of the better SHMUPS I've played). Granted, Square did make some bad games before Final Fantasy. Anyone ever heard of KING'S KNIGHT???? No? Consider yourself lucky.

And I have not said otherwise. I only said that SE always made multiple crappy games through the time, and it's not fair to bash them and claim that they only care about the money now because a couple of their latest games are not that great (Mainly FFX-2 and the FFVII Compilation), even though they still develop awesome titles.

X-2 and the whole FFVII shtick is kinda....bad.....ok, VERY bad. But it's better then the other stuff out there. and X-2 did have a good battlesystem. It was actually fun. The story was crap though. So were the graphics.

haha, I never asked "Who buys a game they know they will hate?", or something like that. And I know you're free to comment on whatever which is why I still said that's nice.

Am I the only one who liked X-2?

Anyway, as Mercutio said, you're letting your opinions of previous FF games cloud your vision of something that could potentially (with emphasis on potentially) be a really great game. You're allowed to have your own opinions, but by the looks of it, it seems nearly all of you are superimposing your opinion onto something that hasn't even been released yet. Yes, the game could be crap, but i don't think anyone's entitled to judge it off a trailor that's released months before the game emerges, or the history of a company that's still trying new things.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this game. That's enough from Jono for now.

I personally, can't wait for this. It looks so old school, and so like the original, which is my 2nd favorite 2D FF. (My first being FFIV)

I really don't like the fanfare, the way the screen changes to your character standing there, I feel that could get on my nerves. Some of the music also sucks, like the crystal room music. The only other thing I don't like is the Land Turtel's attack animation, it fails.

The awesome boss battle music still sounds the same, sorta, so thats good, and I like the way you only start with one character, it makes it feel more "Final Fantasy" shall we say?

One question though.....Are the battles turned based of not? The Golblin battle looks like it isn't turned based, but the Land Turtle does.
