Lol, it does! (An Arrow was shot) I like them too. Like im not saying his stuff is bad, its just very deja vu, you know what I mean?

the TotA OST could have been better if it werent for that shitty airship theme. Shit sounds like the Magic School Bus March.

lol pbs humor lol

I never got that far. I'm not American, I was playing on a cousin's PS2 while abroad. Co-op was fun, got up to some snowy holiday resort.

I love Motoi's work from Baten Kaitos, Tales of the Abyss/Symphonia, and Golden Sun.
Yoko Shimomura's Kingdom Hearts and Mario RPG stuff is cool, but I've not heard any of her earlier works (Not played Live A Live, etc.)

Masafumi Takada - The guy who did the Killer7, No More Heroes, and God Hand OSTs - is also extremely awesome.

ToTA was utter shit music, his best was prolly Star Ocean 2 or Valkyrie Profile (Also GS was pretty good). My biggest problem with Motoi Sakuraba is that his musical talents are so lazy. When he seriously writes something and not just emprovisionally fucks around (like in SO3) he almost sounds the same. For example,  "The True Mirror" almost syncs up with "Cutting Edge of Notion" perfectly. (Dont believe me? Try it.) Dont worry about Live A Live, the OST was terrible (including voice acting by Yasunori Mitsuda XD).

Takada had a few good tracks in God Hand, but mostly it was overly annoying gibberish.

Edit: Im also pretty sure Shimomura did SFII also :3

God yes. His work in games like Golden Sun and Valkyrie Profile is ace, but when it comes to Tales of, he seems to just half-ass it. I mean, there are some memorable songs, but still, the bad far out-weigh's the good. That said, Go Shiina should start doing Tales of music. ToL had excellent music.

Well its odd. Sakuraba is a rock-band musician at heart. Like, composing isnt even his forte, which is why Star Ocean 3 was so WTF with the OST because Enix wanted him to be really emprovisational about it. Ironically, (imo) when he's actually forced to compose symphonic tracks and what not, that's where he shines. Golden Sun 2 has the best world map theme I have ever heard in my life. No joke. But when it comes to Tales series, hes paired up with Shinji Tamura so his music tends to get lazy and too dependant. As a live performer (just watch his live concert) he shines as well. I hate Cutting Edge of Notion, but the live version is simply brilliant!

As for Go Shina Ive heard some of his symphonic works and they seem pretty good. I never played ToL though, because of the horrid reviews it recieved. But ill take your word and go download the OST!

Im a huge Sakuraba fag but hey, idc. Enix OST's raped the Squaresoft ones back in the day, anyhow.

ToL is so under-rated, it isn't even funny. I mean, sure, it's not perfect by any means, but it was basically expected to be Tales of Symphonia 2. So people weren't ready for it. As for the OST, it goes there in my top 5 favorite OSTs, only rivaled by Silent Hill 2, Earthbound, Valkyrie Profile, etc.

Yasunori Mitsuda and Yoko Shimamura are my favorites.  Shimamura's music caught my attention all the way back during the NES days with Megaman 5.  It's difficult for many folks to tell with 8-bit games, but her composition even back then was excellent.

Here's an awesome Akira Yamaoka pose for Darkfire...

Miss matcha, that pic with Mitsuda is so freaking awesome! I missed my chance to get one with him when I saw him at the play concert. Ive always wanted to get a pic with Sakuraba or Sugiyama.

I also thought Megaman 6 was great, especially the "Mr. X Stages" track.

Pretty much every japanese composer listed in this topic is my favorite, but you missed a few.

Michiru Yamane - Castlevania. Nothing more to be said.

Jason Hayes - Diablo II, Starcraft, etc.

David Wise - Donky Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie, Conker.

Yuzo Koshiro - The man can make phat beats. What can I say?

Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid wouldn't be as epic without him.

I'd say Jesper Kyd. He did the music for numerous sucessful games such as the Hitman series, Unreal Tournament, Kane and Lynch and Gears of War.

Fucking legend.
