For god sakes this game is way more balanced than FO:3 ever was. It just really didn't pay to be melee in FO:3. Not one bit. Charisma was equally useless since almost every important quest had a dialogue/miniquest work around to achieve the same result. Not so at all in FO:NV. Also Charisma can be capitalized due to the nerve bonus, so it helps in combat as well as strength or agility would. I started off with a typical FO:3 power build with near maxed agility, int, and perception and i found that my squishy sniper is actually squishy, and not the untouchable invisible death dealer that he would be in FO:3.
After playing through with the sniper i went melee nearly maxing strength, endurance, int and completely gimping perception and charisma. This resulted in a character that has become as invulnerable as the Tick smashing wasteland assholes to death with his trusty super sledge, while constantly running into land mines and such in the dark because his perception really sucks. Good thing i have a trusty eyebot to solve that problem. With all the endurance perks and melee perks he is an over jacked juggernaut of death that can just tank with utter ease. If he was a cannibal he'd never need stimpacks in all likelihood. Since they have caveman speak I'll prolly try out making a moronic man smasher.
