Everything you wanted to know about.. RELIGION

@wyatt
What's with the stupid propaganda >.<
wait, wait,

you talk incessantly about proof and then when you get the proof you challenged people to present you call it propaganda and move on

lock this. silver wind has been through every religion thread on .org and nothing's changed.

That wasn't my argument at all. Some people believe seeing black cats brings bad luck, and other nonsense.
My argument (for the, what, 5th time now?):
Let's say you were given a book of a new religion, and you were told it was given by G-D himself. In that book G-D says 'you saw I spoke to you from the sky', and orders your 'ancestors' to tell the story to their kids for all eternity, how G-D revealed himself to them.
And let's say your father, mother and other relatives never mentioned it. What would you conclude?
lol, number nine, read wyatt's response..

I'm not sure what you mean by the first link. It was the moths I spoke about, but it also agrees the white and black moths existed at the same time.
Their definition of evolution.. I don't get it. If black moth survive more than white (not the other way around, like I said) how does it prove evolution?

Though a black peppered moth was found in 1811, this can be seen as an aberrant morph caused by a recurrent mutation that was probably selected out of the population. The first carbonaria to be found was caught in Manchester, England in 1848, but was only reported 16 years later in 1864 by Edleston. Edleston notes that by 1864 it was the more common morph in his garden in Manchester. Steward compiled data for the first recordings of the peppered moth by locality, and deduced that the carbonaria morph was the result of a single mutation that subsequently spread. By 1895, it had reached a reported frequency of 98% in Manchester.

A good mutation, huh?
I guess when you say mutation I think of atomic bomb results, etc, not a simple color change. Yet, you are right, such mutations can be good. But, if you took these moths to a place where the trunks are pink, will they turn pink? It may sound silly, but if the 'mutation' only occurs within certain limits(a dog may grow less/more hair, but no scales. a moth may have more/less melanin, aka being white or black, not pink), it doesn't help the evolution theory, I'd say it contradicts it: there are distinct groups of animals, each only slightly changing in: color, size, and other minor changes.
This is the difference between micro-evolution and macro-evolution.

Now, about my claim to proof Mt.Sinai revelation:
I talked about: the number of the witnesses, and that they must tell their kids about this event.
1.
Don't compare this to 3 millions of Jewish people on Mt.Sinai, who had no motivation to lie, and the chance of all of them cooperating in a lie is not likely.
2.(in response to: "to invent a religion all I have to do is say it happened a long time ago")
YES. if it was a story about a few people/ single person that claims he saw some divine sight. NOT if you come and tell ME that I and my entire nation were there. NOT if you claim we celebrate this event every year since.
3.
Hey tindy, I'm starting a new religion, do you mind telling your kids a story about getting a book from G-D? oh, thanks a lot Tindy, you're a great friend. But remember, your kids must pass it on to their kids and so on or it won't work!!
4.
If your grand-grand-grand father were told he saw something, and he didn't see it... I would like to believe, or the sake of humanity, that he was intelligent enough to say: YOU ARE LYING.

there are distinct groups of animals, each only slightly changing in: color, size, and other minor changes.
and the minor change allows the creature to survive in a new niche and it is able to breed and pass the trait on and over hundreds of thousands of years mutation and natural selection specialize the creature to the point where it can no longer be considered to be the same exact species.

I don't understand what's difficult for you about this. I could swear you're deliberately misunderstanding and misrepresenting the theory of evolution to strengthen your own argument.

Yet, you are right, such mutations can be good.
but isn't it a sin against nature? are all creatures not created perfect, as you said, and therefore any deviation is against G-D's design and therefore inferior?

This is the difference between micro-evolution and macro-evolution.
you say those words as if they're supposed to mean something. you're inventing two nonsense terms and shoehorning examples into their niches.

Yes... yes, I think I can just about see it; The topic is a couple of thousand miles away over there.

*points*

I'm sure if we all clap hard and say in unison "I do believe in fairies" (Or God), we could get back there sometime in the next couple of posts.

thank inco that was definitely a necessary post

p.s. love the kingdom hearts avatar

really this topic is shitty no matter what topic it's on. so long as it's about religion it's like choosing between the tigers at the top of the cliff or the tigers at the bottom.

the strawberry is the "lock thread" button.

it is the sweetest strawberry.

Okay okay, ontopic;

Why is the bible named the bible and not something else ?

Latin. It shares the same route as "biblio" - book. The Bible is a shortened form of "biblia sacra" or "Holy Book".

Furtherback, it goes into Greek as "biblion", or 'paper/scrolls' and back to the Egyptian "byblos", which was a colloquial for what we know as papyrus, which was exported to the Greeks from the town of the same name.

Calling it "the Bible" is like saying... well.. it's THE BOOK. The Book above all other books etc etc.

Awesome Bro

Why are Jews refered to as "The Jews", like they're a whole new race ? I mean, my guess would be WWII with Hitler etc. etc. but it might be further back than that...

Also, whats with the stereotypes saying all jews have big noses, black curly hair, good with money, and, when they're older, have beards ? I mean seriously, that must've come from somewhere, but where ?

It appears in all the old stuff and became standard. It's mostly a tribal thing that has been codified, endured through European nationalism and racialism, and is now one of those childish things that really needs to be lain to rest.

Also, whats with the stereotypes saying all jews have big noses, black curly hair, good with money, and, when they're older, have beards ? I mean seriously, that must've come from somewhere, but where ?

Mostly the stereotype came from Russia and the Ukraine after... well... I can't remember the *exact* name of the event and how it's usually referred to, but it was the result of a massive amount of escalating friction between Jews and Russians in the sticks back in the medieval era.
.
It spread across Europe because it was associated with the event. It's a bit like saying "Why are the Chinese portrayed as yellow with slanted eyes" - because that's a caricature with what those people were familiar. The features are, more traditionally (and generously) features of the Caucuses.

Ah I see, fair do's...

I'll think of more questions later, lol.

We'll get this back on topic if it kills us!

QUESTION Judas Iscariot. Probably the most fascinating character in the New Testament. What are your views on this guy, literary, theological, and...er... er... episto-mological.

QUESTION: What, in your view, would the theological implications be if something like The DaVinci Code were true? (Aka Jesus' descendants). What are your views on Mary/Joseph/Jesus etc, and do you think there is evidence to support the existence of Jesus' extended family and siblings subsequently erased from the text?

About "The Jews",
In Hebrew it's translated to 'people of Judah', aka Judaism, Jew. Judah is a single tribe out of 12 tribes of Israelites in the exodus. The other 11 were exiled from Israel during history. We don't know where they are today, probably because they mixed with the population of their new location. Our tradition says all the Jews today are descendants of the Judah tribe.
While Jews were in exile, The Church, the Muslim leaders AND the evolution-theory believers all contributed to the idea of Jews being inferior, greedy, ugly, etc ,etc.

Question to Christians:
Where in the 'new testimony' does it say to stop resting on Shabat, stop eating Kosher food and so on? Why did Christians keep Shabat 300 years after Jesus supposedly canceled it?
*warning: rude question ahead*
How come the guy who moved it to Sunday(300 years later) happened to be a believer of the Sun G-D, as well as being Christian?
Sun-day is called so because it held ceremonies for the Sun 'G-D' being reborn.

The Church, the Muslim leaders AND the evolution-theory believers
ugh. speaking of creating a caricature of an entire demographic, you really just had to imply that all the other beliefs are set on maligning yours, didn't you?
