Well, I'm sure that everybody here is familiar with at least one aspect of Nexon, a Korean gaming company made famous by Maplestory. But, is anyone here familiar with all of their games? For example, they have a popular FPS game that is free for play, and, like the rest of their recent games, is an MMO. That goes by the name Combat Arms. They also have a game similar to the idea of WoW, but going by the tagline of "Fantasy Life". That would be Mabinogi. BUt, most people never knew Nexon had a hardcore game like Mabinogi Heroes in development. Using the Steam engine made famous by Half-Life, Counter Strike, Dawn of War, Crysis, and many other games, they are making a new game, under the tagline "Fantasy Slash". Not only will it be one of the most advanced MMO's in the world once it comes out, but it will have astounding interactivity. Picture a classic 007 game. You just fired your last round, and can't find more ammo. Whagt if you could break a window, and use a long piece of glass as a dagger? That's the kind of thing you can do in this game, with almost any object on the field of battle, from a tree, to a stone column, to another enemy. Not only that, but the graphics are stunning. Yes, it is based on Mabinogi, a cell-shaded, life-oriented game, but it is based on the darkest aspect of the game, the warped and destroyed paradise of Tir Na Nog. To all who want to see more info, I recommend you visit the site, at heroes.nexon.com (Note, Nexon requires IE for many of their websites), or, better yet, check out this videos at youtube. (Like this one: Official promo.) Really dark, coming from the owners of Maplestory.
Anyway, now that I've said that, I'll open this thread to the discussion of anything related. For example, the irony of one company using the engine of another to power its games. Or, the fact that MMOs are getting darker, or even how memory intensive everything is. Mods, feel free to lock this if ypou feel this is advertising. I just though I'd let you guys know what the next big thing in MMOs might turn out to be. (And the best part is that it'll be free to play)
