Event below hero

Hi,
I am having some troubles figuring out about this on Rpgmaker XP :

In rpgmaker2003 or VX, you can set an event's position below the hero so that when the hero is walking 'on' the event, he is on top of it. But in XP, I can't seem to find a way to do this - the hero can walk through the event but the event is always on top of the hero even if I unchecked the 'always on top' option. I've searched the forums but didn't find much guide to this. Can anyone suggest me how can I perform this without using scripts please?

Thanks a lot.

Well if you haven't got always on top checked then the event SHOULD be under the hero.  I've never encountered a problem like that before.  Definitely make sure that you aren't making that "always on top" anywhere.  Otherwise I'm stumped as to why that's happening.

is the event using a graphic from the tileset? if so is that graphic square set to priority 1 or more? because even if its used in an event it will still use its tileset priority and put it above the character, other than that im not sure what else it could be

If it's part of the tileset, there's two ways of fixing this. One would be to change the priority in the tileset to zero or 1, but then that would probably mess up all your maps that has that tile.
So you have to do a workaround by making the hero always-on-top near that object. Just make sure there's nothing that should be ontop of the player while he/she is in that state.

Default events: If you are on the same tile as the event, the player appears above it. If you are on the tile behind the event (assuming the event is more than 32 pixels high), the player appears behind it.

Events with tileset graphic: The event's priority is exactly the same as defined in the tileset.

To solve this problem, you would give the player "Through" and "Always on Top."

Thanks for all the replys. Well the event is a character but the hero appears below it on my map. But after I created a new map, the hero appears above and everything is ok. I think that it could be some variables or events which I used - I'll have to recheck them one line by one. Problem solved - thanks a lot :)
