Event-based Battle System, Chrono Style

Ok, let's see how to summarize this one up. I've got the ability to make characters show up on a battle map with events, animated scenes, and most everything to make a battle system, except I need to get several things figured out and was wondering if someone's already posted scripting on the subject or if people knew what to do. So here goes....

1) Creating a battle HUD. I've seen demos with custom huds but no real walkthrough on how to say, display HP as a number/bar at coordinates around the map, letalone for multiple chars.

2) Custom menus. I know the default menu in here allows you to have 4 choices, so far my thoughts were "Attack, Magic, Item, More->" and keep cycling More forward... but lets face it, it's ugly, clunky, and pathetic that way, heh. Plus the screen shows up wide and huge and I want it condensed around choices like an FFVI menu of sorts. This part is huge so if anyone knows custom scripting to allow you to mod your own menu, or a demo with it in the script to reference, or something much much much appreciated.

3) Item / Magic menu cycling. When you actually choose "magic" for instance, having a menu show up that might show say, 5-6 choices, but allow you to scroll up and down to access a total of much more. Showing this "window of choices" eludes me and I'm stumped completely on this. Obviously you have 300 million items available in the game, but when you bring up a window to use your items in battle, say like FFIV, FFVI, or Chrono Trigger, you only 'see' a window of maybe 4 choices, and scroll up and down to get the full screen. Another big one cuz this makes the battle system design much easier, I'm assuming it has to be done with scripting cuz I haven't seen the event choice to show a menu yet.


Menus and Huds are really all I need help with, so again, thanks in advance for any help on these subjects.
