Eternal Sonata

Lately I've been really hating me some jRPGs, but this latest Namco-Bandai deal I think is worth a look. It's by the dudes behind Baten-Kaitos. It's coming out for all the systems, I think?

Now, first, it follows all the typical jRPG stereotypes:
- Lead character is a precocious teenage boy
- Secondary lead is a blonde teen female good at magic
- Someone else in the party is a young child :)/)
- Names are quirky and silly (Polka, Allegretto, Beat)
- Features a typical "Urrr, bad guy beat down pretty time village >8O" storyline
- Characters have ultra cutesy anime time faces

But what's neat about it is that:
- It's centered around Chopin, or rather, his vision of a fairytale world inspired from his music on his deathbed (Tuberculosis).
- Everything is based off his musical works, from names, to chapters and their influences, to characters.
- The battle system is hugely fun and interesting, from the demo I played. And it actually has some challenge to it.
- NO RANDOM ENCOUNTERS

But, most of all, and I want to emphasize this.
>>>THIS GAME IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL<<<

It's not necessarily the most graphically-advanced, in that the polygons in the environment aren't SUPER smooth, but the colors and textures are absolutely knock-your-socks-off gorgeous.

Actually those screenshots don't do it justice. It's absolutely fantastically gorgeous. Half my enjoyment of the demo was derived from looking at it.

So anyway, I think I'mma rent it. What do you cats think?

Boo.  I've wanted to play this game for awhile, but I've never had the chance.  Just for the fact of what it's BASED ON; I don't care if it'll suck, the concept alone would have made it worth it. D:

my little brother has been fappin to the name of this game for a long while now, so eventually i'm going to get this game (whether i want to or not).

also, am i the only one that likes random encounters ?_?

I am so excited that its coming out fer PS3. I was excited when it first came out for XBOX360 (even tho' I don't own one). When I finally heard that it was coiming out for PS3 I nearly jizzed myself. I played the demo on PSNetwork and indeed, it is beautiful.

wait, JD there's a way to play the demo online from the ps3? tell me @___@

also, if the battles aren't ranodm then how do you get into encounters? do you have to run into the monster on the map?

see i don't like that because then after you beat up all those bastards and want more you have to leave the map then run back so them lil bastards can respawn... so gay

It was okay for a little. The only that was cool was the battle system and how it was different in light and dark. But the story was just a little bleh.

I might have to buy this for my own personal b-day gift to mahself! ^_^ (on a side note, my bebes got me Wario World: SHake it!!! :DDDDDDDD)

I've got this game last year.  It's pretty fun.  I didn't get too far into it because I kinda just ignored it for awhile (Tales of the World was sucking up my life at the time).

Definitely worth buying.

I've been playing with it little by little, and it's somewhat light-hearted, but essentially a sweet title. The character designs are cutesy and the voice acting is slightly above average (I wouldn't say spectacular, but better than typical voice acting) I've only played like an hour into it so I can't say much, but I'll update my reaction when I get further into the game.
