Looks like a decent start, I think you need more contrast in the hair right now.

His legs are very very small for an XP sprite. The upper body looks fine. The shape of his hair looks good, needs a shadow on his face below the hair. The gradient in the hair is bad. Since the hair is dark, you probably only need 3 or 4 colors at the most. But give enough contrast between the colors so they can be easily told apart.

The hair might be a bit too feminine though..
