Epitaph: The Twilight Children Musicks

My brother and I are creating (or attempting to create) some MIDI musick for our online game, and so far we've 'completed' the main theme, called "Epitaph in Stone". Now for some reason, when we export, it converts all sounds to piano...which is annoying, but someone from another site liked our piece and said they converted it back...which I'm unsure of since I haven't got to listen to it. I'll post both versions here to see what you guys think...

Converted: http://www.rpgmanager.com/download.php?file80

^^ If you have a way we can fix our exporting problem...we'd appreciate the knowledge. We use magix midi studio 2003 (or 2004 i cant remember) deluxe.

musick doesn't end in a ck it ends in a c >.> this isnt final fantasy XII

its a little too simple rhythmically for my taste, and the layering loops are kinda obvious.. it's not awful and it gets a little better as u move into the middle but gets really muddled at about 1:30 .. u could have done better, but u could have done allot worse.

Oops srry...I don't like FF by the way, I always have spelled this way for some reason...I'll try not to in the future.

I'm not a music person, but all of the people at the game music site seem to love it, so I'm guessing it's a green light for Epitaph's style of musick. The rythm is supposed to be simple at first, but if you do notice, the tune actually does have some tricky rythm even for the beginning (the tune sounds like it flows with the 3 time, but it is actually shifted off...because I wanted it that way, but even so it's probably not noticable...I was just helping add to my brother's background tunes, since he's not good at coming up with main tunes). The style I have to say, is pretty unique...I mean I really haven't heard many people imitate my brother's style.

I made the middle part almost by my lonesome since my bro was at work...I wanted it to sound cluttered more than muddled...I wanted there to be so much going on that you almost couldn't hear the main theme being repeated. I had thought I accomplished that, but I guess not. ^^;;;

I really dug his tubular bell tune at the middle point tho, so much that I cut off the tune early so people could hear the musickal masterpiece XD (kept the strings on tho, since it sounded tacky without 'em.)

it is a nice attempt, you choice of chords however is completly wrong arround 1:05.

You are creating too much polythony for a game theme as well, cut down the texture slightly.

Parts around the drum are slight off beat, Either it was quantised wrong or you just played it in out of time.

I agree with Mascarpone as well it is a little too muddled at about 1:30.

the "the tune actually does" not  "have some tricky rythm even for the beginning", it is simple and very jumpy, try adding more legarto.

Can I ask what software was used to multi track this and are either you or your brother musically trained?

Nice job for a first attempt however. The second half (round about 2:00) is much better then the earlier material.

Keep it up.

Yup, i was first chair clarinet and lead vocalist of my band, my bro is multi-talented on instruments and will most probably become a mucik teacher someday...due to the praise he gets *glares at him*. XD It's supposed to be off...if I didn't mention it already. I guess you could say it's our style...It's an acquired taste I guess ^^; at 2:00 i think it just repeats the beggining....uh yah it does...^^;;;; The version u hear is actually not correct. We can't get it to export in the right instruments and even the second converted one is slightly wrong. We use magix midi maker 2004...on a computer that is half-dead. lol

I actually like the muddlyness of it all. Up to when the drums come in, and then it goes all pear-shaped. But a sexy sound, all the same.

EDIT: Oh, the piano one is TONNES better. Sorry.

Well since the last time i was here I've gotten quite a few members to join our little project ^^ We have a certain guy named Saisonstrife who is converting all of our MIDI to revamped mp3 versions and even remixing some! He's done 2 mixes so far, and they both have gotten SUPERB reviews on many forums, so our musick is looking like it's gonna be a huge hit ^^ with theprophet and saisonstrife working together, this game is going to be ecstacy for the ears (or so many say).

Here's the new mixes of Epitaph in Stone:

Techno Mix

Fruit of Life Mix

A revamped mornal version is coming soon, so stay tuned. Oh, and enjoy what we do have ^^
