Story.png

Once upon a time, the people of the world did not know what sunlight was. There was no day, only night. The people of the lands prayed to their gods to help get rid of the darkness. Finally, the gods decided to give the humans half a day of sunlight, and half a day shrouded in darkness. They summoned Helios, and made him the god of the sun. He would ride around the Earth, guiding the sun across the lands in his horse driven chariot.

But then, one day Helios’s chariot went out of control, and fell down a cliff. Helios was brought down with the chariot. Helios was okay, but he was so severely injured, he didn’t even have the power to guide the sun! The gods had to pick someone else to replace Helios.

The only one able to replace Helios was Eos, the Goddess of Dawn. Many gods were reluctant to choose her, being a woman and all, but they had little choice as Eos was Helios’s sister and was the most appropriate person to fill the place. And that is how Eos, a tiny goddess in history, became one of the most important goddesses in all of history.

Characters.png

You play as Eos, the new god of the Sun. Eos has no clue on what to do as the sun god, as the gods really didn’t explain anything to her. She was just thrown out and was told to go around the Earth. Eos is very kind and courteous. She enjoys helping creature in need and will do so often.

GamePlay.png

This game is neither story driven nor combat driven. It is simply more like a sandbox game. You go around the planet to 24 different regions. Throughout these regions, you will explore new places, help the needy, and play minigames and such. The progression of which you explore these lands is very linear, but, every time you return to a previous location, there will be new and exciting things you can do such as minigames, quests, new areas to explore, ect.

AP
As you continue your journeys, you gain AP through certain quests and such. AP or Attribute Points, help you gain fame throughout the heavens where the gods live. After you acquire a certain amount of AP, other gods will not only recognize you as a worthy goddess, but will help you using their godly powers.

Money
As you continue your journey, you will also gain money. Money can be used to unlock new quests, buy houses and upgrades, unlock new lands, and even unlock bonus features.

(some of these areas are rough draft. Plan for them to be re-worked mapping wise.)

Some Earlier Pictures Of Snowlight Village

Snowlight village is located on a plateau near the the north ice cap. The people there are quite friendly and live together as a community. They live as one with nature, and live peaceful and quiet lives and find solace in living as one with nature. The multiple huts they live are actually one big home, divided up into several pieces. The only person who lives in an actual house is the mayor of the town.

Harbony Fields is a un-inhabited part of an island south of the northern-ice cap. The fields are a chilly place, but animals of all sort still live there. Supposely, there is a ranger who live in the northern part of the fields.

Nuhar Forest is located further south of the northern icecap. While it may not snow in the forest, the tempertures are in the fifties, making it a cold place. Nuhar Forest is located next to a popular camping ground, so many campers, hikers, and fishers can be seen there.

Nohul_Forest_2.png

Sky Town is, well a town in the sky. It sits in front of Gate Olympia, where the gods live. The angels here are very strict and plain, and dont show a lot of emotion. Sky Town is the only place where you can spend your money and your AP.

Q & A

Q: Is that it with the story? Is there going to be a big story involved in this or not.

A: While there may not be a main story, there are sidequests which add little story around to entertain the player.

Q: If there is no main story, how will the player know what to do next?

A: As you help more people and do more stuff, you gain AP and money. Certain quests are only avalible until you have a certain godpowers, how long you have played, what quests you have already done, and what you have bought in stores.

Q: I dont like the intro pic.

A: While pictures like these dont occur often in the game, they do appear on multiple occasions. These pictures represent a simple manner that shows humorous fun. A more detailed picture would not fit in this game.

Recruitment

Well, Hello. If you are reading this then you must be somewhat interested in filling one of these positions. Let me introduce myself before asking for help though. I'm Becoolioman, but you can call me Bacon or Nik for short. Im am currently working on a project caled Eos, Goddess of Sun for RPG Maker XP. So far, I have a somewhat reasonable start and have gotten positive feedback thus far. Yet, due to the size of this project, I am at a crossroads. I need help in order to complete this. So I am asking you, kind person, to consider helping me take on a serious project that hope to break new ground in the Game Maker world and show that a great non RPG game can be made using this engine.

This is the link to my project:
http://rmxp.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=65857
I am using this link because I have gotten the most feedback from this forum thus far.

Of course, I also have an RRR page too.

Job Positions

1-2 Spriters

I am currently looking for 1-2 spriters. These spriters will need to be used fairly often. The work required though is not huge. I am mainly looking for RTP style character sets, edits, and other things. The things needed are again mainly character sets though I will need additional things such as add-ons to tilesets. The work here needs to be RTP style.

1-2 Scripters

I am currently looking for 1-2 scripters. These scriptes will also need to be fairly often yet like the spriters, the work that is required is no major task. I am looking for scriptes to script minigames and other events such as these that are not capable using events.

1 Writer

I am currently looking for a co-writer. While the ideas are already set in stone, I am looking for someone to help create ideas for quests and such.

Idealist
I am currently looking for someone to create new ideas for the game such as features, minigames, and other concepts. They always say two heads are better than one.

Thank you for reading this. If you want to fill a position, feel free to post or PM. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks again.

Awesome Bro

Sounds pretty interesting and all... but what the fuck at the introduction, are you seriously going to be using art like that ? o.O

No its just for the intro, and is a WIP. These pics will only be found throughout the intro. The finished one will probably look somewhat better. This game is not a very serious game though, so those looking to indulge in a story of some sort will be disappointed. :)

The back story and Idea of the game is great but I think that although it is sandbox,
there should still be some sort of story going on at the the same time.
Like in most sandbox games.

Sounds like it will one day be a good boredom cure.
Good luck.

Yeah but I mean seriously, put SOME effort into it, lol.

As I said, it does seem pretty interesting, but maybe it'd benefit a little more, if you could give it SOME direction, instead of just being a complete sandbox game, maybe there's a posibility of a story just to keep the player in the right direction ?

Cause the problem I see with games that are completely sandbox (No story at all) is that, well, they're uncompletable, what will happen when you've bought everything, done all of the minigames and quests etc. I mean, yeah, GTA is a sandbox, but even that has a story (A shitty one at that.), and I just don't feel your game will ever be fully-complete if you know what I mean, I like a game that rewards me for finishing it, that lets me know I've gone from A - B. A neverending game WOULD be cool, but when you've got nothing to do after a while, it'd get boring, y'know what I mean ?

They're my thoughts anyways.

Of course there will be some direction.

I dont think I made this clear. Here is how the game progression works. You start out in the snow region. As of then there is only one place you can go, which is the snow village. Once you leave the village, your time is up in that region. Thats it, done. You are automatically taken to the next area, where you do different things. This of course will add strategy, because when you unlock different locations for different regions, you will be able to travel to one place. You really cannot make a story out of this game nor this scenario.

Now of course, there will be expansions and whatnot that add new events, minigames, areas, god powers, features, ect. I also plan to have a new mode, only using the moon goddess, Salene(I think thats her name) Of course, this will be in later times to come.

I will take your suggestions and try to create progression in the game, but not through a story.

This looks good but I think direction is necessary, maybe you start them up by making the first region a tutorial and then when you let them loose in other places then there's a rough structure to complete events so we're not completely helpless playing it. I dunno we'd have to see something playable to be sure how it works.

Of course, Im not going to leave anyone in the dust. I plan to have a brief tutorial at the beginning. Also, there will be a rough structure, as certain event cant be unlocked until you have a certain god's trust, how many times you have been around the world, or whether or not you bought a certain object that unlocks an event. :)

Cool, this should work nicely then. That intro pic is delightfully awful too, if you keep the style and make it somehow fit in, like maybe it's some crappy scribbles of Eos at the start of the game then it would work quite well.

Is this a compliment? That picture is one of the few I have, as there is a story in the beginning that uses these pics. The story is the one at the top of the thread. :)

I still think the game should have an end to it show how.
Rather than the player finding out they have done every thing because they cant find anything else to do...

The whole part of a Sandbox game is that it never ends, (at least this is my opinions)
I have course will add multi-Day side quests and whatnot. And there will be an expansion pack here and there, to add more to the game. This game will not appeal to everyone, as everyone doesnt like these types of games. But to those who it appeals to, I will try to add as much things as possible. :)

The people of the lands prayed to their gods to help get rid of the darkness
Quick Question: If they always lived in darkness and there was no sunlight, why would they pray for an end to the darkness? How would they know there was something other than darkness? If darkness was ultimate, wouldn't they not have a concept of light? xD

Hmm, I think in regard to the storyline bit... yes, sandbox games shouldn't end, but that doesn't mean you can't have a story that doesn't end. Like, maybe when Eos proves herself worthy to the Gods or something? Then the story ends, but you can still keep on playing and exploring and doing quests?

Well, they might not know about "sun"light, but they'd know about light from candles and fires, no? So it seems reasonable to me that they'd want light to be everywhere instead of just darkness all the time.

See, Devy knows. :)
Though, I updated the the story to include this.

It was a compliment, it takes a special kind of person to make stickmen look as awesome as you do.

Thank you, I work hard on making stick figures. It takes years of practice. :)

So yeah. This concept sounds really cool and a sandbox game would be nice to see. But there's something that I don't think I understand.

Eos is supposed to replace Helios, correct? And Helios was the one guiding the suns, right? So if Eos is walking around the earth doing stuff, who's guiding the sun? Would the world not be again plunged into eternal darkness? Like, does she have a chariot, does the sun keep following her wherever she goes, or is there something else going on? I'm a bit confused

Eos, instead of a chariot, has a horse. Helios was sort of a dick, and really did not care about the fellow beings. Eos does. As you go around the planet, there are 24 different regions. You go around each region in a certain order. These regions represent time zones. So she is guiding the sun around each timezone. Of course, the logic isnt exactly perfect, but you get the picture.

That's kind of a neat, cute concept. Regarding story: I don't think there has to be "a" story, but I think you can incorporate storytelling elements (ie. small-scale drama) that add flavor. In a way, even a little quest is a little story. I think the important thing is guiding/motivating the player, but it sounds like you already know that and are addressing it in detail.

I can imagine the intro pic being better, though there are several possible approaches. I mean, it's possible (especially with certain software) to make a picture look like a "messy" sketch, yet have it be artistically tight, though I know I find that tough to do. But it might be fun to brainstorm ideas, like drawing it in crayon on paper and scanning it. Different ways to accomplish a feel of simplicity and of not being too serious. The actual content of the pic could be improved. The people on the right conversing with a distressed expression on their faces works, but I can't figure out why the guy on the left is there or what he is thinking/feeling. The actual wording of the introduction, if you are planning on using it, could be tightened up, too.

Anyway, overall it looks like it's going in the right direction.
