~Elderin~ MMORPG [Hiring]

The game name is Elderin. We currently only have me and a coder. I can do a lot of the work myself but I require help because of the scale of the project.

Please skip to the bottom where it talks about job roles if you can't be bothered to read the history and details of the game.

The game i'm currently making is an online game. I've already started mapping some of the levels. It's an MMORPG so the games going to require a lot of quests, maps, items and so on. I've got one coder who's going to help edit some of the scripts (because Net Play left a lot of errors behind). It's being made on Rpg Maker Xp but using NetPlay we've got it online. Don't panic because of the engine were running it on. It's already got so much changed that it looks unique. We want all unique sprites, tilesets and everything after about a year.

This project isn't a stand alone! We've also got books being written on the side along with a beautifully illustrated comic book. Were hoping to get a few artists to help with a card game and a cartoon series.

About the game
The game is a game called Elderin. We've already set up a website a while back because were not just having a game made were also having comic's made, stories and a card game is in the idea stages.

Elderin already has a lot of history and this will make for an exciting gameplay.

A short history lesson:

The world of Elderin has had many problems. A long time ago magic was started to be discovered. Random people had started using spells but only small ones. Certain guilds started where they were trying to work out what magic was. They started working and for years where writing down notes and sending each other scrolls about things they had learnt. Eventually they had a list of thousands of spells and worked out many things about magic.
The main problem started when certain mages started using magic to so evil deeds such as murder people without leaving a trace, steal gold and more. This caused a uproar in the kingdom and the king banned magic. This caused a small group to get together called 'The Brotherhood'. They started recruiting and about 50 years later finally started a war against the royals to allow magic back into the kingdom. After a huge war the kingdom allowed magic back but some mages wern't happy thinking that everyone was ok. They believe that the royals are ready to fight back so a small number of the original Brother hood turned the Goblins, Slinders and about half the elves against the royals. The royals then Changed their name to the 'Coterie'. They spoke to the other elves and gained their trust along with the dwarves. The Coterie moved north of the island where they have remained. The Coterie have since built a kingdom of their own. The elves of the Coterie have been named 'Light elves' and the elves of the Brotherhood have been named 'Dark elves'.

Random raids would be orginised and then unleashed upon the other Alliance.

Things that can be done without coder
Choose a race and then according to that appear eaither in the Brotherhood or Coterie side

PVP (but I can't limit it to Brotherhood VS Coterie)

Send mail to other players

Trade items

Quests

Fight NPC's

Get a pet

Day and night

Fishing

Join guilds and parties

(working on minigames)

Level up

(working on taiming creatures)

Things we want characters to be able to do:

We want characters to be able to choose Brotherhood or Coterie at the biginning of the game. This would effect what choices they have of character. This cannot be writen in events it must be scripted. This is because of the NetPlay scripts would need to be edited slightly.

If they choose Brotherhood they can only choose from the races Slinders, Goblin and Dark elves. If the player chooses Coterie then they get the choose of Humans, Dwarves and light elves.

Only PVP that could happen is between the two Alliances. You could only fight someone from another Alliance not someone from your own. This would mean PVP would have to be constantly switched on but stop your alliance from attacking you.

Player owned homes. I know how to make a house avalible for one character but not sure I can do it with switchs alone when it's Multiplayer. It would have to be allowing you to buy a house and other players come in your home. You could design it (this would only be by purchasing things you could place them somewhere in your home).

Jobs needed:

* Sprite maker [free] - We require as many as possible really. Were hoping to stop using all the rpg maker xp sprites not straight away but eventually. This way the game will be 100% unique.

* Mapper [free]- We don't want hundreds of these lined up we just require a few good mappers. This way we can control the inflow and quality of work.

* Voice over [free]- We need one person that has a deep 'Cinematic' voice. Even if you just put it on it's fine but we want a really hard hitting intro with live cuts mixed with gameplay.

* Coder [free]- A few would be wonderful. We need to change some of the scripts that Netplay left behind to make them work and a few custom ones so that the game is more custom and better for the players.

* Musician [free]- I already have one but I require 2 more talented musicians to make the game feel perfect.

I'd really appreciate a link to an example of your work.

If your going to apply please leave your name, contact detail (if you don't wont others reading it please PM me) and what job role.

I hate to sound like an asshole but I think this has already been made; World of Warcraft and its fantastic, remaking or even making something as close to that game as possible would be impossible without a few hundred million to spare. Not that you've said you want to make a Warcraft fangame at all but from reading over your topic briefly and being a Warcraft player this jumps at me as an obvious attempt to rip it off.

Hi,

You're gonna need to put up some screenshots if you want this thread to stay open in Project Discussion. The rest of your thread is fine and you have plenty of information but you just need to include at least two screenshots here. (it's in the rules) If you could just pop some screenies somewhere in this thread that'd be just dandy.

If you haven't started development then this thread might be better suited for a forum like Concept Development. (although recruitment really should stay in Project Discussion)

It's not a rip off. As stated before there is a story that's been writen by our staff members. It follows the storyline so that's the way the game goes. As for the war thing yes I could understand how you could mistake it as a 'rip off' but the story is huge. That's just a simple summery of how it goes. The comic also follows this storyline.

As for the printscreens they are coming I just want at least one decent printscreens but it's only just litrally started. We already have 5 staff members (including me).

Sorry but the rule is: if it's too early to take screenshots, then it is too early to have a full project thread.

As Dev said, your project might better suit a concept development thread if the game is in such an early state.

I've got some printscreens. Remember this is very early and it only shows the one character (because no-ones connected to the server yet)

This is the Brotherhoods starting area bank:

This is a quest boss. It also shows me chatting:

This is the boat the Alliances will have to catch if they want to sail to the other Alliances side:

This is the login screen:

They are just some random screen shots.

Now, comes critiques of screenshots, mainly at maps, they have no detail at all. <- PERIOD

You need to spend more time now on each map making it datailed and such, not throw something together.

Well, jcsnider, you have to take into consideration that because this is a multiplayer game, mapping is going to be handled a lot differently. You should definitely have more open space on maps in these kind of games and I think he's done that quite well.

Really though, imo making high-quality maps shouldn't be the priority right now, since there are a million other issues that should be worked out before anyone should even care much for mapping.

yea they are VERY ruff printscreens. They were small maps made just so that I could test certain things such as scripts, npcs and so on.

The game is now much bigger and out mapper is amazing. He's done an amazing layout and he's going most of the game.

The main things were working on isn't the maps at all. Were currently working on scripts and npc's.
