Do you play any musical instruments?

I'm 3rd trumpet (but technically I'm really 2nd since we don't have one. lol. We have 1st then it skips directly to 3) in my college's jazz band.

yup, I play electric guitar, self taught and play songs from these people (although I mostly play my own, improvise)

Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton
Black Sabbath
and my own using these styles
blues
Heavy rock
psychadellic rock
Rock and roll
jazz

have a 68 fender strat and a marshall HW 100w 1969 super lead plexi with 2 classic 4x12 cabs,
dallas arbiter fuzzface and a vox v846 wah.

jazz band sounds cool, how long have you played?

i play the basic instruments that every highschool student learns (bass/guitar/keyboard/drums), but i prefer to program my music digitally

I played the Bass Clarinet (woo hoo, the only nerdier thing is a Contrabass or a Tuba on a fat kid probably) in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. When I got into high school I quit because I have a bad knee and back and I couldn't march holding the behemoth thing. Plus I was pretty thin so producing strong sound was a real chore.

But yeah even then I had no musical talent and I still don't ^_^

(/Bamboo) Flute, noobish clarinet, some amateur piano and trying to teach myself guitar. Like Cruelty, composing via programs like Finale 2006 is my preference too for amateur works, since it takes too much of a hassle to get an actual studio set up. Although authentic performances are obviously more special and better if done right.

I would love to be able to play the piano, oh lovely.

when I get the time and money Im gonna buy a grand piano (so in about a decade then)

@Venetia: How about the Bassoon? ^^;

I started on the Alto Saxophone, but switched to the Bassoon at my teachers request. Still played the Sax for Jazz Band though. Tried out a whole bunch of other instruments (Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, among others) but never did much with them.

Haven't played anything since high school.

I started playing the trombone when I was in 3rd grade and played up until I was a sophomore in high school, which was like 4-5 years ago. I still often wonder if I still got the ole' trombone magic. I was actually pretty freaking good and got up to second trombone (there was this one mofo I could never pass...) but yeah. I'm a trombon---- er.

Been a while since I've actually played anything, but the instruments I've played at varying points go as follows...

Flute, Trumpet, Cello, Viola, Violin, Bass, Guitar, Bass Guitar (just a damn bass you hold like a guitar I suppose is the description), piano (very iffy at this one), random percussion instruments, and that'd be it I think.

The only one I very seriously played was cello, and I was quite good at it. Shame the high school I went to didn't have an orchestra and I was too pressed to participate in an extra curricular orchestra (well, not so much pressed as I had some jobs and didn't feel like giving up ALL of my free time).

At the moment the only one I still play every now and then is a violin, since my brother owns one. Not the best, but I'm no slouch with the thing.

Who knew that Andy was such a musician. :>

P.S. I forgot to add, I play the triangle too!!!!111 D:

Edit (Because I'm too lazy to post another reply): How so, Venetia?

I absolutely am in love with cello music and mandolin music (not the bluegrass kind, the rustic italian kind). Always have loved string orchestral stuff. My highschool didn't teach orchestra either, just marching band.

You know, it's kinda funny. Playing an instrument as a kid is nerdy, but when you're an adult, it's an asset in a bunch of ways.

I'm playing that as well.:) I startet experimenting with typical beginner instrument flute and tried piano and Keyboard, but although I love to make music I have no talent at all. I can't find melodies on my own, I can only immitate...
I must have something with my ears(don't know though), because I can't tell notes and that's why I can't sing, too. I always miss them, when I try to sing(it's really bad.)

I just play the flute. I wanted to get into other instruments, but I got the, "It's too expensive and you need to get better at your flute playing first" speech from mommy dearest.

Guitar. I don't like it when people ask "Eletric or Acoustic?" Basically, if you can play one you can play the other. Same instrument, different methods of producing sounds. Sure some techniques might not work on one, but its not like it you can play acoustic you can't play the electric. I guess its ok if people ask your preferance... Just sharing one of my pet annoyances with everyone.

Enough rambling. Been playing for what? 3 years. I'm not that good though. I don't practise enough. I'm not musically 'talented' (ok I could ramble on about another pet annoyance here) but I enjoy it, have no plans on giving up and might get there on day. I also can't play a lot of songs because I have forgotten a lot and most of what I listen to is too basic/hard for my level. But the ability is there after so long.

Maybe you guessed from my first paragraph i play both electric and acoustic. Interesting enough, because my acoustic shits on my electric I play it more and therefore a few more acoustic songs and create acoustic songs. However I listen to a lot more electric stuff.

I would say it would depend on the instrument. Would anyone agree? Guitar and drums would be considered cool in high school. In our school we only had the chance to learn them and keyboard. As an adult I would agree with you but in high school might be considered nerdy, unlike the rock instruments. I do find it interesting that despite this most of the people I know that play guitar are on the lower scale on the popularity chain. (not me ;) ) As a musician I apreciate anyone who plays any instrument reguardless.

Interesting...

I can play some piano, flute, violin and percussions (though I'm not good with the latter).

I also have a diploma of musical pedagogy for accordion, which obviously means that I'm kind of good and that I can teach that instrument.

I'm not really sure it depends on the instrument.
I think it depends on how far you go, or rather how good you are; I was rather known at school for playing accordion but not in a good way, but when I got my licenses/diploma, my school mates thought I was awesome.
Of course, playing either keyboard, percussions, guitar or anything in the range automatically makes you a nerd.
