Direct remakes

Does anyone know of any?

What I mean is say, twenty years along the line, a new director comes along and decides to remake a TV show or film, but keeps the original scripts word-for-word.

Life on Mars, and Life on Mars USA, bar the last episode, are exactly the same (more or less); it was a remake but keeping the original scripts. Watching it after watching the brit one it's easy to sit there going "oh how are they gonna do x storyline?" and then seeing it and being wow, that's totally different even though the script is the same or whatever.

Anyway I wondered if they've done it with anything else. Films would be interesting, especially if the gap between the two is large enough.

oceans 11 and oceans eleven were pretty damn close, the only lines that changed were the ones about security of the casinos. you know since there was 40 years between the 2 movies. not exactly what you were looking for, but pretty close

Oh that's pretty cool - I feel bad for thinking Ocean's 11 was an original film!

Uh, I think Watchmen might count? A -ton- of the direct comic was used both in shot for shot framing and dialogue. Sure there are other parts that were changed, notably the ending, but Zack Snyder was like "KEEP EVERYTHING."
