Dip into the Paranormal - Subject: Zombies

so restoring the electrical current to the brain and heart could get the blood flow running around the body again, the diaphram working again and then the lungs re-activating, like in the story of Frankenstein's monster.
Oh for god's sake. NO IT COULDN'T. Within an hour of death the brain's cells have all but died. Once neurons have failed to fire, they cannot be refired. Frankensteins monster was written over a hundred years ago- if it was that simple, people would be wandering around with dead mates.

How can you all be seriously discussing this?!

People brought back as zombies were never actually dead. They were administered a powder that's actually a very powerful anesthetic - and mimics the state of profound coma. In the past, this used to be mistaken for death and people were buried thinking they had passed (because their breathing was so shallow and their heartbeat slowed extremely). After they were dug up and revived, they were given another powder which has hallucinogenic effects in addition to making the subject susceptible to hypnoses and other subliminal manipulation. This accounts for their pliability and nearly catatonic mental state.

You can read more about this in The Serpent and the Rainbow, written by Wade Davis, and considered a modern study of zombism in Haiti.

Yes, I heard of this powder. It was used on Juliet in Romeo and Juliet wasn't it? Minus the hypnotic part.
@holloway: If you have a problem with open minded people then stop posting in this topic.

Yeah, I've heard in Africa that they would have these voodoo cults suposidely bringing people back from the dead. I think they injected them with a drug that would make them feel as if they were dead or they weren't dead to begin with. Would bury them and these people would come out alive after the drug wore off or they regained consciousness. I don't think zombies are real or that people can bring the dead back to life but it might be a very slight possibility.

Mistaking people for dead wasn't all that uncommon during certain ages of certain societies. I think it was the old english who started actually producting coffins that had a small pipe leading to the surface/a string and bell so if you were buried alive you could still breath/ring the bell to be dug up. Maybe myths passed on from that sort of era?
