Dimension

Story
One day, Bob lost his arms. In an attempt to recover them, he must travel through the very fabric of space & time and use his wit to solve various puzzles on the way. He'll also have to fight werewolves, aliens and frenzied slot machines, among others.

Characters
toonld8.png

Bob
A fearless, armless adventurer who will face anything and everything that stands between him and his lost limbs.

dimangelwu3.png

Julia
An interdimensional being who loves making floral arrangements and helping weary travelers on their quests, in exchange for extremely powerful dimensional gems and other minor artifacts. She is also a part-time demonic overlord.

Featuring...
- Original graphics.
- (Almost) fully original 8-bit soundtrack.
- Original gameplay, hopefully.
- No explanation whatsoever as to how Bob can pick up crates and climb ladders without his arms.

Gameplay & Screenshots
It's simple enough: press Z to jump, X to switch dimensions and C to interact with objects. You can also press Alt to switch directions without stepping anywhere, useful in some situations. Obstacles of a certain colour exist only in that dimension, forcing you to switch dimensions to avoid them. Later in the game, multi-coloured obstacles will appear, existing in two dimensions simultaneously.

A typical level. Get to the door and you win.

dmsc4mh5.png

Easy mode included, aka "that mode for people with awful short-term memory".

Each world gets a small introduction, with pretty much no purpose other than eye candy.

dmsc5ro9.png

The World Map. There's multiple paths to take to the final stage, but they all end up in something attempting to kill you.

Being the first world, it's a bit empty; expect more levels and gems to collect.

Julia working her magic. Here you can get power-ups, straight out of a (cleverly disguised) demonic rift.

Release Date
When I'm done with it. I've been designing levels for this game, on paper, for a loooooong time. Once I finish everything that's needed, content should come fast enough, or so I hope.

Feedback & CC always welcome. :)

Is this game easy, or is it going to be hard?
That's some great use of color(or lack of), except for that bit where julia was and there were millions of pixels of color when the game is... you know, like this.

You know, for a game that seems to be the lowest bit possible on any system, I'm actually looking forward to play this.

This looks and sounds absolutely retarded but at the same time I can't help but want to play it like right now. You should put out a demo at the very least so we get a better idea of what actual gameplay is like.

If most of the gameplay is platforming, though, how exactly does fighting work? What kind of power-ups are available to you?

The beginning is easy enough, you get a few tutorial levels at the start to explain how the gameplay works (you can skip it if you want, there's nothing to collect there), and then you're off to World 1. The worse level so far (the one in the screenshots) took me about 20 tries to beat, even though I knew exactly what to do. And that's after I removed the spikes. That's in later worlds though, the beginning is generally easy.

The game's usually in 160x120 resolution graphics, except for a few details here and there. Julia's bit is just a quick animation.

This is hot; I love it.

I like the concept of different dimensions and the colors. Good job.

Thanks.

I will, when I've got enough content done.

You don't fight anything except for the bosses; the fighting there is puzzle-based (using the werewolf as an example, you have to step on a switch to drop crates on his head and hurt him), you don't actually get any attack moves. As for power-ups, it's mostly stuff to make your life easier, like giving you a bigger timeframe to step between two blocks of different dimensions, where you'd normally have to time your steps and dimension changes correctly; this is a bit hard to explain without you actually playing it. There's a few power-ups you'll need to move on though, so collecting gems isn't entirely optional. You'll also need a certain amount of gems to enter the final world.

It looks promising, the graphics are nice. Bob looks great!
However, the story is a bit short, I know you dont need alot of story for this kind of games, but still. Maybe you should add something more, because now you have "and you have to fight werewolves" etc. Good luck on the game! Looking forward to it.

This looks interesting, and very cool in a retro sort of way. I do like the use of "2 bit" colours, except in special situations. You're proving with this that you do not need fancy graphics for an interesting game.

The dimension switching sounds like an interesting concept, too. It reminds me of that XBox Arcade game, Braid, where the game is built around puzzles using an interesting core mechanic. I hope this is as entertaining as that one.
