Before reading the details of the game, please read this introduction to the project:


This will be no ordinary project. I am hoping to create (with the help of MANY others of course) RPG Maker XP's killer app. If you are unfamiliar with the phrase "killer app" it means a program (or in this case a game) that completely utilises all features and capabilities of a system (RPG Maker) to its maximum potential.

I've been toying with RPG Maker since the 2000 version and have noticed most games were basically the same. Now with XP's ability to use scripting, I've come to expect a lot. I've seen some amazing scripts on the web and a few pretty good demos with custom features. But I've yet to really see anything that could compete with commercial games. That is when I decided it was time to get started on a project that would not only prove what RPG Maker XP is capable of, but to inspire all RPG Makers.

SETTING

Destroyer Saga takes place in the seamingly picture-perfect land of Aegros. In actuality Aegros is a land full of political power struggles, manipulation, bribery, and greed.

Aegros could be described as a mixture of the world of Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy VIII. Taking FFT's midieval feel and mixing it with FF7 and FF8's technology and fantasy elements.

Their are three kingdoms in Aegros.

  • Diore
    Known as The Proud Kingdom. Diore is well-known for their unmatched army and their ability to keep peace among the three kingdoms.​

  • Archavan
    Known as The Machine Kingdom. Archavan is known for their technology.​


  • Oscelia
    Known as The Magic Kingdom. Oscelia is known for their unmatched use and understanding of magic.​



STORY

The story follows a man by the name of Vincent Degaia and his struggle to take power and maintain peace among the three kingdoms of Aegros at any cost.



(More Details...Don't read if you don't want part of the plot spoiled)

Vincent Degaia is son of King Degaia, ruler of Diore. He also has a twin brother, Almsa. Vincent and Almsa were seperated at birth. Vincent stayed in Diore while Almsa was sent away to to be raised in Archavan by an old aquaintance of King Degaia. This was done in secret. As far as the people of Diore knew, the royal family consisted of the king, the queen, and their one son. In such times of unrest, King Degaia felt that this was a good way to insure if anything should happen to the royal family of Diore, Almsa could return and claim the throne.

A short while after Vincent's 22nd birthday, Almsa returns to Diore and assassinates the king and queen in public during the Celebration of Peace, A celebration of 25 years of peace between the three kingdoms. While having a few drinks at the bar Vincent is confronted and attacked by a few Diore soldiers who accuse him of murdering the king and queen. Shortly after a few more soldiers ordered by Almsa walk in and kill the other soldiers and drag Vincent off to the slums of Diore. Although they are now under the order of Almsa, they don't have the heart to kill Vincent. They leave him with a warning that if he doesn't leave Diore soon, he will be murdered. Vincent then travels to Archavan and is falsely recognised as Almsa. He then uncovers some information about Almsa leading him to a man named Darius, a teacher of the art of assassination. Vincent learns a bit about Almsa and decides that he will become a student of Darius.



CHARACTERS

Vincent is the son of King Degaia, ruler of Diore. He was never really one for the life of royalty so he spent much of his time hanging out with commoners. After the assassination of his father and mother, Vincent decides that in such a corrupt world, sometimes the only way to maintain peace is through bloodshed. He decides to disguise his appearance and to slowly work his way up the polical latter by any means necessary to gain the power he needs to take back the throne. He does this under his brother's name, Almsa.

Almsa Degaia

Almsa is the son of King Degaia, ruler of Diore. Raised in a very poor town in Archavan, Almsa had a very rough childhood. He was often beaten by his foster parents and did very poorly in school. By the age of 16, he had run away from home and led a life of crime. During a robbery at a local shop, he caught a glimpse of Vincent at on a television. He noticed an uncanny resemblance to himself and new it was no meer coincidense. Almsa soon traveled to Diore to learn more. After about a year of searching he finally tracked down the one person who had the answer. The nurse of the royal family. After a bit of "persuation" She told him that he and Vincent were indeed brothers. Almsa returned to Archavan with a deep hatred for his real family. The only thing he could think about was revenge. He had no clue how to even get close to them though. Until he met Darius who taught him the ways of an assassin. After training under Darius for 4 years he left for Diore to plot his revenge.

GRAPHICS

Destroyer Saga will feature 100% original resources.

Something like what Ragnarok Online uses. I'm tired of seeing those little, tiny RTP sprites used in so many projects. RPG Maker XP can support bigger sprites, so use 'em.

Instead of using tilesets, Destroyer Saga will use pre-rendered 3D backgrounds.

Also Destroyer Saga will need a code to change the size of event and character sprites based on their position on the map. This will further enhanse the 3D feel given by the pre-rendered backgrounds.



GAMEPLAY AND CONTENT

The battle system in Destroyer Saga will be a customized ABS.

Destroyer Saga will feature a pixel movement script.

The game will be divided into Episodes. Each Episode will contain a new part of the story and new quests.

The world of Aegros will be huge. I want to pack as much content as possible into this game. Destroyer Saga will use a similar system to Final Fantasy X's overworld system.

The storyline isn't anything new, but it looks alright. Pretty interesting.

You shouldn't call it "RPG Maker XP's greatest game" though.

BTW, King Degaia. It that supposed to mean King of Earth?
 
This is just ridiculously ambitious. Trust me, claiming this to be the "greatest RMXP game" isn't going to bring you positive attention.

And by looking at your recruitment I can't help feeling you're asking people to do everything for you.
 
Balore : Yeah the basic storyline is pretty standard. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's still better than a "get the magic crystals and save the world" type scenario.

Yeah I guess you could say it kinda mean King of the Earth. It's just a random name I came up with.

True. It may be a bit cocky to say it's the greatest. But it has potential.

The project is brand new. All I need is a dedicated team. There is definitely a lot of potential around here. It just seems it's being used on small projects and scripts instead of something big.

Crescent : I'd rather be ambitious than settle for churning out another fangame packed full of the same graphics and gameplay used in every other RPG Maker game. RPG Maker XP is capable of creating some pretty great things. Go check out Fluffy And The Gang and be amazed by what happens when you stop settling for mediocrity.

Dorito : I will mainly be the project manager. I will also be working on the plot, quests, sprites, music, sound effects, and character and location designs.
 
I have no problem with the coinfidence in you, but your in the same position of a load of us. Sure, my game could be far greater if I had a scripter to produce all the custom scripts I had designed, but it's unlikely they ever will.

Same goes for custom spriting. If I could have avoided the rtp then I would have without a doubt, but the reality is that I can't. I don't have the time or ability to better the rtp as well as making the game itself.

If you have the ability to make the killer app then your going to need to show the best people here. Wow them and you just might get the help, otherwise you have nothing to differentiate you from the rest of us in terms of recruitment.

I can't really comment on your proposed game because you have produced nothing yourself. The story seems like a decent start and I assume you have written far further in than you are revealing.

The point I'm simply making is if we could all get that amount of recruits with those capabilities, don't you think we would have? Release a demo now of some sort of teaser demo, if you want these people on your team, give them a reason and some insurance.
 
Everything starts with an idea, there are countless games I've seen throughout the rmxp community that never get done but in my opinion having a strong commitment and high ambition for your game is what helps it stay alive.

I really like the 2d on 3d rendered background proposal though there are alot who seem to not like it, i wouldnt mind making a game like that if I was able to make the backgrounds. But good luck with this man, i hope you can find some scripters to help you out with that system it would be kickass, but you're probably gonna have to shell out some money for it.

It has potential but i'd like to see you post maybe more character info and their sprites in the future

There is already a script made/nearly made for the varying character size based on map position. Sephiroth Spawn made it as a request for someone. It's called the perspective script I think.

There is a Final Fantasy map system already made too.

There are ABS's made, though I don't know the details of this proposed one.
 
Calibre : Yeah I knew this wasn't going to be easy by any means. I think I'm gonna have to try to do a bit of everything myself and come out with a brief demo. I wanted to avoid this since although it is possible for me to do most things on this project, I am not an expert at any of the departments really so the demo will be a pretty rough draft.

I knew about the FFX Overworld Map script and a few ABS's, but I had no clue there was a perspective script out. Thanks for the heads up on that, I'll have to look into it.

Soulwake : Thanks for the support. And yeah it's a pain to find scripters for a project but I wouldn't mind paying.
