I'll start by telling you a little bit about myself. I'm a 20-year-old college student currently working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management and a Master's in Organization Development. When I'm not studying hard retail owns my life. In my free time I enjoy working out, drumming, writing music, going out to dinner with friends, playing video games and now designing them. I've played video games ever since I can remember. (I think I knew how to use a controller before I knew how to walk...)
Anyways, my favorite games are Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mother 2 (Earthbound), and Silent Hill 2. Shigesato Itoi (The creator of the Mother series) is my inspiration for wanting to make a game in the first place. I think that games are best when they take you out of your world and immerse you in their own environment. I like games that have lots of small subtle details that add to the player's experience without them realizing it and make them forget they're playing a game. I have noticed that many of the projects here are based on high fantasy and promise the player epic stories focused on topics such as prophecies, good versus evil, romance, betrayal, crystals, and magic.
As much as those kinds of games seem to be the favorites of this forum, I can't offer this community that type of game. The main reason being that those games have never appealed to me and I could never work on something that didn't make me happy. The second reason being that those projects often become bigger than the creator can handle and it leads to them becoming frustrated and giving up on it. The type of game that I'm aiming to develop is really quirky. I'll head over to the projects section within the next few days and get my idea up.
I downloaded a trial for RPG Maker XP in high school and started learning all I could about it from tutorials. Shortly after, I went looking for a community and ended up at PhanxGames and here when it was RMXP. Although I've never posted here before, I've been lurking this community for about three years. I've read hundreds of threads and played dozens of demos and projects. I've always been impressed by the amount of talent in this community but never felt as though I had anything to add to it. I'd like to change that now.
As far as RPG Maker XP goes, I know the program really well. I'm horrendous (slight exaggeration) at mapping but I can do everything else needed to make a game. I've done magic with events before and I put great amounts of detail (descriptions, sound effects, character animations) into my games. I can't write scripts but I can make slight alterations to other scripts to get them to do what I want them to. This is OK though because what I aim to do doesn't rely heavily on scripting.
As I touched upon before, music is a huge interest of mine. I've been involved in music in one way or another for the majority of my life and spent my high school years drumming in random cover bands. Many people often underestimate how much sound adds to the gaming experience. Not only does it set the tone, it can also influence the way a person feels in certain points of the game. It can evoke feelings of suspense and fear as well as sadness. Sound effects add a whole new layer to the gaming environment and can make the player feel more involved in what they're playing.
I feel like this is where I can bring the most to this community. I've been writing music for a long time. (Both for bands and for games). I write for video games based on the project's feel and try to choose instruments that go along with that. As I said before I have a project that I'm soon going to bring light to. Here are two WIP midis of music I wrote for my game (Final versions will be done with Native Instruments). The first is the main character's theme and the second is a naming characters theme. My video game music style, like my game development style, is also very quirky. These may not be as majestic as the themes that Reives writes (unbelievable work by the way!), but I hope you will still be able to appreciate them in their own right.

Nice To Meet Ya!
I think I should probably wrap this up. If I was able to hold your attention for this long I sincerely thank you for wanting to know about where I'm coming from. I'm highly motivated to become active in this community. Although I do have my own project that I'd love to finish, I understand that everybody else is in the same boat as me. I'm not selfish enough to start demanding that people help me with it. I'm willing to give help where I can offer it as much as I am willing to take it. After all, that's only fair.
Admittedly, I'm not very good with forums and I don't know where to begin with making a project topic look as pretty as most of them do. I have a game concept fully completed with a dense eight page project file that I can share with anybody who is interested in helping me map for it. If anybody would like to help me out with this it would be most appreciated.
My AIM is Hunt1288. Feel free to IM me If anybody wants to talk about projects and if you aren't comfortable doing that you can always PM me. I'm quick to respond. Thanks, and Ill see you around the forums!
