Well,
The idea of the über PC build was a bit unrealistic, and would have taken far too long to come to fruition. So, in the mean time, instead of spending seven grand on a PC, I decided to spend about one, and bought a HP DV7-3169.
I haven't had a lot of time to mess around with it, since I'm setting it up; however here are the specs from the properties of My Computer under the Windows 7 Experience Index:
Processor: 6.1
Memory: 7.1
Graphics: 6.6
Gaming Graphics: 6.6
Hard-Drive: 5.9
It has a 640GB HDD, 6 GB of ram an ATI mobility 4650 video card, and an AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M620 2.50 GHz
So, all in all, it's a mid-level PC. This should keep me happy while I learn the basics of 3D programming, since, after all, I don't need tri-SLI to make a cheesy RPG.
Comments welcome.
Hoo boy,
I decided it might be a good idea to do some more testing on the system and in the end: I took the machine back.
I think I'll focus on a more manageable price range of about 3400, of which I'm already half there.
It wouldn't even score on the overall in 3D Mark Vantage, the CPU was under 2000 marks.
