DC original animated movies

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Univers ... ted_Movies

I watched Gotham Knight a few weeks ago or whatever, like a couple days before seeing The Dark Knight. Last night I watched Justice League: New Frontier and just now I finished watching Superman: Doomsday.

Thee are seriously fucking good movies. Extremely high quality, not just in the animation but in the writing and the acting. Anne Heche did a great job in Superman: Doomsday as Lois Lane. There was one scene in particular that drew a few tears from me, which is saying a lot.

My favorite of these was probably Doomsday if only for the power of the scene I just mentioned. The fight scene between Superman and Doomsday was breathtakingly badass as well, and Luthor has at least one moment that seriously had me going HOLYSHIT.

JL: New Frontier was amazing as well. Exteremly well done, especially considering the large cast. Plus the setting (in the late 50s) was really nicely done. It felt VERY superhero.

Gotham Knight was probably my least favorite of the three, but that doesn't mean it was bad at all. Still fantastic on its own, but compared to the others it didn't really seem to have the kind of magic going for it. Maybe it was because it was gritty and anime; it felt more like Ghost in the Shell or something than Batman.

As a whole these are absolutely amazing movies and I totaly want all of you to watch them, even if you are not a fan of DC heroes. Seriously all you anime fans need to watch these and learn a thing or two about real fucking american animation.

havent seen New Frontier (unless that's the one where WW, Superman, and Hawkgirl go to like the weird other dimension and solomon grundy dies but i dont think it is)

doomsday was totalyl badass. ESPECAILLY the fight. i don't like anne heche much generally but she did do a good job though. only qualm there is that i REALLY don't like that art style. too plain and like, jagged :/

haven't seen gotham knight yet but i plan on it (evenytually)

Did Anne Heche decide if she was gay yet?

I'm kind of enjoying Hollywood's delve into the comic book universe (i know thats not what these are, I've yet to look them up but i will at some point) and the general resurgence of super heroes in pop culture. it's been fun.

they're good because Bruce Timm is in charge of it, he's probably one of if not the most forward thinking person around in western animation right now

well, Gotham Knight wasn't great actually

Hm, I guess this means I'll have to pick up New Frontier.  I saw Doomsday when it first came out and I LOVED it.

Gotham Knight was the only one I wasn't sure about.  I've seen Japanese takes on American shows before, and... yeeech...

actually it was americans trying to be japs, not the other way round

it was neither. it was american-written and japanese-animated. it was more of a collaboration between western animation and japanese animation.

which ALMOST worked, because i do think that it was pretty well-written. the japanese animation part of it was a bit too blatant though which made it feel less like BATMAN

I've not seen Gotham Knight yet, it is something I am meaning to pick up.

Got Doomsday and New Frontier on my last trip stateside and they rock! I'm a fan of the DC heroes and both of those really did it for me. Probably moreso New Frontier simply because it gave screentime to Hal Jordan's Green Lantern and Barry Allen's Flash, two of my favourite characters who've been used so little in animation before.

Superman: Doomsday wasn't too bad, but it failed to capture the spirit of the comics it was based on. It lacked the heroism of the "Death of Superman" arc, the sorrow of "Funeral for a Friend", and the moral issues of "Reign of the Supermen."

Granted, five quarreling superheros, a funeral with thousands attending, including nearly every DC superhero, and an alien invasion is a bit much to put into one cartoon.

Hmm... For me it was almost exactly the other way around...

And I fucking HATE anime. But I did like some of the Dark Knight (the first three cartoons and then the last one I think. The rest were gay or complete rubbish.) Superman Doomsday was HILARIOUSLY BAD!!
Superman makes a cure for cancer? "Who's your DADDY?!" -Luthor, random Kevin Smith references, and really stupid sub-plots.
I haven't seen New World, but my friend (who's a HUGE JLA, Bruce Timm and DC comics whore) and she didn't like it, so I'm not gonna bother.
