Custum Shadow Tileset

After spending a few weeks on making maps I kept getting discouraged by the way the shadows looked on the buildings. The default shadow square that comes on each tileset just wasn't cutting it, so I started playing with photoshop and made some of my own.

Tileset dimensions are 256x448

you know, thats pretty nifty. but what happens when someone walks on the shadow? does it cover them or do they go on top?

That would depend on you priority settings. I use a 5 to keep my shadows on top of everything else, including characters.

Nice idea! You know, you could change them to very light, very transparent yellow too, to make areas of light in a room, such as what would come through a window :D

Awesome Bro

This is very impressive, would it be okay if I used them ? I'll credit you obviously.

Just a question, do you use these as an addon (Merge with tileset), because how can you add the shadow if you need the three layers ?

You could use them as events (although a lot of them will cause lag as much as a lot of any event) if you need all three layers for the map itself.

Just use them as an event graphic (which I prefer really since it allows hue, saturation and blending options).

And of course, anyone can take use of these, I wouldn't have put them up if I didn't want to share.

It doesn't have to be, but in the scenario where you need a shadow on top of the map when the 3 layers of that square are already used, then you use it as an event. Yeah, a ton of them would lag like crazy.

But yeah, I merge it with my tilesets and then use it as an event if I need to, but I don't recommend making them all events.

Further more, it seems I'm missing a few of the angled shadows. It's nothing major but it can make setting up shadows on odd shaped items hard or impractical. Also, I'd like to add more curved sections. Hmmm, work to be done.

If you're going to make it cross over player, Fogs would be the best way rather then that.

But for getting shadows under, muy bien.

Agreed, I do prefer fog for shadows, but this beats making a new fog map for each area for me.
