Custom Tileset (Crap)

I made this tileset to practice my pixel art. This is my first EVER pixel art project so it obviously sucks. I just wanted to get so advice on how I can make my work any better and improve.

The cliff and house tiles work just fine (I've tested them), and I particularly like the cliff. I'm not sure how to get the tree right. I was hoping someone could give me some advice.

I'll probably add more later.

You should stay consistent with your shading. The black part of the wall should also be bricks.
Other wise, it doesn't like a wall. The barrel should have highlights.
Others could probably give a more constructive critique. Try to finish the tileset first.
 
It's not something that can be finished. I'm just adding whatever I can. It's just for practice.
But thanks for the advice. I was too lazy to add bricks to the top of the wall but I should do that now.
 
Well, first off you need a consistent viewpoint for this - you've got it all over the place, so it'll never fit together. Most of it is in a good 3/4ths view, but the house is tweaked, and the cliff is no good. Sorry.
Also, I suggest looking at some shading tutorials and studying the work of others, such as Showkaizer and missingno. Missingno in particular had an old incomplete tileset that you could use to get some pointers from, at least stylistically, and Show is obviously the pixel king 'round here.
 
Hmmm... How about a screenshot of the tileset in action? It looks pretty good for a first attempt imo. I like everything in the top row and the tree in particular.
 
I tried to make the cliff and house in the same angle and proportions as in the RTP, I don't know what went wrong. I added a screenshot of the tileset in use (made it pretty hastily), and I'll guess I could go and look at some of missingo's work,
but Show's is too good to study o.0
 
Colours are scary, feels like LEGO... Maybe change the palette?

IMO the cliff looks the best, it's a little cel-shaded-esque but it doesn't look that bad. The outlines need to blend in more and you need to work on texture and shading. Again a different palette may help out as well.

The bricks are bland, and lack texture, compare them to even the XP RTP and you'll understand. Even though they don't look 100% the lighting seems good. :thumb:

The tree is out of proportion compared to the rest.
The house (walls) have no texture at all, and seem unfinished. The roof tiles look messy and random, also somewhat repetitive. The windows are black and white. they need more colours, as do the walls.

Overall.... The line work is very messy, and the shading is untidy, great first try, but your still not there. Keep practicing, add more pieces and you'll get it! :thumb:
