Summary ~What is "Cursed Books?"

Cursed Books was a Role Play I have posted time and time again on numerous forums that were into the whole role playing scene. From your sprite recolor boards such as people recoloring Mobians from Sonic the hedgehog or megaman rip off's, up to development sites that had a role playing section included. Over time, I accumulated a good number of fans who fell in love with the role play, I got asked if I was going to publish it into a game, comic book or novel. I decided why not try making it into a game?

In Cursed Books, you have a set of books, 13 so far in total, that curse the victim of any human that comes into physical contact with the said literature. In exchange, the victim would receive a power that could reshape his or her life. Powers ranged from controlling fire and ice, shape-shifting, bending reality and even create illusions that could really do physical harm to anyone who controlled them. The curses to each power were somewhat unique though a little cliché. Becoming blind, being erased from history as if you never existed, burn anything to the touch, losing one's reason to live, becoming a vampire and so on. In order for the victim to free him or herself, they just needed to live their lives while their books would self-record their victims lives, covering any major or life affecting events. As these books slowly write from page to page; the victims power grows stronger, though their curse further infects intertwines into them.

When the books themselves fill to the last page, the victim would be free of his curse and keep the power they have obtained while living that phase of their life without any clause or further harm. The stories each person took part as who played along within the RP were very influential and very passionate about their roles.

Story

In the land of Tinea, the dark ages were slowing fading as man was slowly pushing forth to innovate, build and prosper. With the rise of progress began the change of new ideas and changes within government; Leading onto conflict and war between 3 factions. The Diligent; A group of 3 kings leading their kingdoms through monarchy and a heavy tax system to supply their troops with weapons and provide resources for their scientists developing improved war weapons. Between the 3 factions, the are the most advanced. The Sons of Twan; A group of mercenaries occupying the western continent. They train constantly, day after day in an attempt to overthrow 'The Diligent.' The Yovo, the most primitive yet peaceful 3rd faction occupies a large island, southern of "The Diligent's" continent. They have benefited from the innovations from 'The Sons of Twan' and 'The Diligent,' though still tie to their old religious ways. As war rages on; a dark shadow works behind the scenes, traveling to each country, carefully selecting its victims, purposefully giving them tomes, each embedded with a curse and a power.

When the factions take notice and discover the victims, they start hunting them down; whether as weapons of war, heroes, villains, the cursed retreat as they are hunted, defending themselves and preparing for their long adventure ahead.

An aspiring artist of a small town in the east, he was from a family of famous vodka brewers, but he was denied of heritage by the vice executive when his father died. But he was granted with an all access pass for the vodka. He travels from town to town trying to make a living, but failed. When he was 19, he finally got a commission from a very rich man for a painting with a high price.

Talos Livith The Mechanic
Book: Drifter
Curse/Power: Personality and reason to live Wilt away and fade until the victim is as cold hearted as his power/Control the element of Ice
Talos use to work with factories, helping them create military planes and various other aircrafts for the upcoming war's. Having knowledge in mechanics, he starts his own business and develops a plane engine that can travel a longer distance than the average fighter planes. His brother, disagreeing with Talos's life style, destroy's his prototype and burns his workshop to the ground. With no engine and no more any funds to re-produce the machine, Talos's investors purchased another contract from another inventor and gave the patent away. Angered by his brother's deeds, he sets out to find him..

Artist - I need help in drawing the bust's of the characters for the text boxes used throughout the whole game, someone to help make a few maps, help create a few sprites and to redesign the logo on the far right of the banner in this post.

I think your concept is quite interesting! I can't really make up what your game's story is going to be like, however. Are there going to be 13 main characters with each a different story as to how they get the book and how the curse affects them? Are you going to use the RP's you played in your game?

Also, I personally don't think you should prioritize the voice acting. It's very cool if you can pull it off, but if you haven't found actors yet you are a long way from home. My advice is to simply use plain text and work on making the game playable before you implement voice acting. Another sidenote to the voice acting is that you should keep in mind the total size of your game will increase significantly; and most people tend to not want to dowload files that are too big. Altough it seems you're only going to use it in a few cutscenes, in which case it's not that big of a deal.

I see your screenshots are coming soon; but those are the kind of things that lure people in and make them want to read your post and comment on it. So i'd advice you to upload some snaps asap. You're kind of leaving us in the dark as to what the status of your project is right now.
 
I would be up for voice acting if you need it.

I could also help you out with some custom music tracks, but it would only be guitar.

The concept of your game sounds very unique.

The screen shots are taking time because I'm still putting together a few maps.

I wanted to wait until I had a combat system together and am looking for one specific, however I don't have much skill in ruby to put together what I want.
I will, however, add screen shots of the maps when I finish my title screen. Which will be very soon.

I planned to use 4-7 Cursed users, however the whole list of 13 may take a lot longer, but I think its do-able; To put short, I may or may not do all 13. The games story will show a little bit of each of the characters lives before their curse, how they receive their books and how their families and friends are affected before they take on their own personal quest to get rid of it.

In terms of characters, I'm only plucking 5 role played characters from the previous RP days the RP hit the forums that I think had a lot of depth and heart to them and throwing them into the story.

Updates made. Screen Shots at last!

There is no screen shot for a combat system yet and I'm working hard at it to find something useful.
I was able to get two profiles approved and use of their characters, since the two I got responses from didn't have much use for them in other RP boards.

I'll add the list of books as soon as I can.

Another note,
The title menu is on a map and is completely built on event actions and runs pretty smoothly.

When I fiddled around with 2003 before XP or VX, I loved using events to do all sorts of things.
I'm in college now taking programming courses, yet still get lost around Ruby and have no idea how to program with it.
 
Regular self-examination and do their own psychological adjustment division; alive, it is doomed to run around and toil. In many cases, one of WOW Gold the greatest enemies, more often than not others, but ourselves. Beat myself, also defeated lives. Every morning to remind myself once, "what to do and what not to do?" Every night they check their own time, "what right and what was wrong?" People living in the world, that can eat silly silly sleep, that can There is no thought. Done very difficult to make fewer mistakes is easy. Encounter something goes wrong, depressed mood, learn to do their own psychological adjustment division, adjust their own emotions, their own care about themselves, their comfort themselves, their enlighten yourself, carefully nurtured moved, carefully taste memories, real live each day. :smoke:
