My team and I are currently working on a visual novel game (Curse of Slate Rock Manor), but we are using RMXP to do it. Our last commercial title was Bipo: Mystery of the Red Panda.

We have posted the project on IndieGogo and would like to ask for your support in getting the information out there. I posted our youtube video below, but for more information please visit our project page: http://igg.me/p/20036?a=90750&i=shlk

Every time someone visits this page, it helps our page rank to go up. Thanks! I love your comments too, so, feel free to leave them and add to this discussion.

I've never been much of a fan of visual novels, but one based more around exploration and puzzle-solving does seem interesting.

That said, the presentation doesn't seem commercial-calibre to me. These days, it's possible to create interesting renders even with the free modeling tools available - if the player is going to be staring at those renders for the entire game, their current state seems pretty lackluster. Your textures are nice, but the lighting and model quality seem like they'd be more at home with a 90s FMV game. More effort would certainly pay off.

Second, I really hope you're planning to change the interface at some point. Some simple scripting (read: changing some numbers) can elongate and lower that text window, and with a transparent windowskin and a readable non-Arial font it would fit in quite well. As it stands, the RPG text window takes up too much of the screen and seems incongruous with everything else.

That said, I wish you the best of luck! A pointer - I'm not going to move this to Concept Discussion because the information is all technically there in the video (although other mods can feel free to overrule me on this), but it would help people viewing this thread drastically if you summarized the information in the post itself. Remember, the point of this forum is not simple advertising.

Thanks for your interest. I completely agree with everything that you said. I am trying to complete the prototype as quickly as possible, and this is afterall a work in progress. I'll make sure to update this post as I continue to improve it.

I wanted to get some input on the new UI window. Thanks in advance!

One suggestion after watching the video: Remove the background noise from your voice acting sound files. It's really apparent and quite distracting. Try Audacity, it's a free program to download, and can easily be used to remove that fuzzy background noise. It'll certainly help the clarity and quality of your voice clips. With that being said, this looks interesting, but I wouldn't exactly consider it commercial quality. That's just my opinion of course.

Thanks for commenting. I actually had to record the audio with my microphone, and didn't realize how bad it was until I was finished, so I just let it go for now. The next videos will have the audio on a separate layer and will not be recorded, so I will be able to improve it. Thanks!
