Crysis

I finally got around to playing the demo for this, and I have to say this game is truly amazing. The demo had to downgrade the graphics a bit so that the filesize wasn't so huge and it also only uses Directx9 in the demo, but the full version will use Directx10.

My issue is that my computer is over three years old now (but I've upgraded it a few times), so I can't put it with the graphics on high, and even so, it still lags during combat situations. My computer has an AMD 3500+, 2 gigs of corsair ram, and a Radeon X850XT. Crysis requires a MUCH better machine to run on full graphics. (And Vista if you want Directx10).

If you watch Directx10 videos of this game, it really looks amazing. Are any of you getting this game, and if so what kind of machine do you have? I'd really love to build a new machine for this game, but I can't just pull 2 grand out of my pants at the moment.

My machine is about 2yrs old.

AMD FX-57 2.8 ghz
Geforce 7800GTX 256mb
2 gigs of SDRAM

I highly doubt I'll be able to run this game well. However, with a new gfx card and..............Vista *shudders*...........I might be able to run it well.

I'm on Dell Motherboard, highest processor upgrade I can do is 3.0ghz and thats like $250 just for the damn processor.....

..but as soon as I do upgrade, I'm going to try it....

looks fun.

Processor (provided it meets the minimum specs) doesn't matter nearly as much as the graphics card nowadays.

Well, the one I have now is 2.0, and the min recc is 2.8. Thats almost 1/3 less than recommended.

The highest graphic card this motherboard will handle from nVidia (only kind ill go with), its a 7600...so it claims.....I'm rockin a 6600 or 6800 with 1.2 gigs of RAM....

Actually, I'm going to download the demo and see what happens.

It's your fault if my dimension melts....j/k

*I gave up on it...I know my comp will run like ass on it....*

Yeah, I love the demo!

At the high school, I am an Aide in the Advanced computers class (which basically means that when I am not grading tests, or putting computers together I get first seat with the best computer in there ^_^)

Anyways, we got a new computer in there a week or so ago, and I put it all together, and I have to say... it is one hell of a machine ^_^

It has 2 brand new dual Core processors, 2 gigs of ram (soon to be 4 when we get it in) 250 gig hard drive, and the newest ATI graphics card that it has (like a $250 video card!)

I am not sure on the exact specs of the computer, but it plays the Crysis demo without a glitch ^_^

It truely does have amazing graphics, although I am still useing DirectX 9c... Just the overall graphics of the environment are astounding!

I still havent beat the demo yet, because I have had to do several other things in the past few days, but I am planning on beating it tomorrow.

And it is not just the graphics... the whole game is great! It is really cool how you can completally customize your weapon in-game, and do stuff like run real fast, jump real high, and when you equip strength, throw things really far ^_^

Anyways, I really like the game ^_^

I am not sure if it will be out for platforms yet, but if it is... ^_^

I am getting it (unless for the PS3... I dont have one of those...)

The newest ATI card is only $250? I spent like 500 on mine and that was 3 years ago...that sucks lol.

I haven't researched it lately but I'm pretty sure Nvidea is ahead in the game for video cards...and many of them cost over $500...I used to be an ATI guy but if I built a new machine I'd use Nvidea.

Can you tell me whether or not the foliage and objects still destruct/move/collapse the same in DirectX9 as they do in DX10?

The main thing I wanna see in the game apart from the gameplay itself is all the destructability, but I don't have a DX10 video card yet, so I don't know if I should wait and play it how it was meant to be played.

There is no system that can officially run this without a hitch yet. The developers stated that clearly (of course I don't understand how they designed it then but w/e).

I have a rig that's less than a year old and has the GeForce 8800GTX card in it (still best on the market, atleast for a little while), and it still experiences a few hitches on high. Looks awesome, though.

Your husband is real lucky to have a wife that knows about video cards and plays awesome PC games.

@Monk: Yes, you can still shoot down trees and stuff in Directx9 (looks very impressive)...and the small buildings and things still seem entirely destructible (although it kind of lags on my computer). I haven't tested it enough to notice if EVERYTHING is destructible like in directx10 but I would suspect that's pretty much the same, since it's really just mostly physics...

I have 1.83GB and radeon 9600. But enough to play the demo. Beside all the freezes, which actually does'nt worry me much. But i guess i really need a big upgrade. Which i'm progressing on at the moment.

The foilage?

You can pick just about anything up, and if you shoot a tree several times, or like run into it with a truck it will fall over.

Is that what you meant?

Then yes ^_^

Every once in a while, when I am fighting in the trees, either myself or the enemy shoots a tree several times and it breaks down. Or when a gunboat is shooting me through the trees, it always knocks down a bunch of trees.

I dont know about things like the houses, or the actual foilage (like bushes and stuff) but I know that works.

(oh, and the $250 video card, I am not exactley sure on that purchase, I did not buy it. I just remember asking him how much it was and he said something like $350-$400 but he got a discount and stuff for working through the school.)
