I don't mean to be big headed, but I see myself as an alright scripter, and
I have trouble with Netplay+.
I do not know if Netplay+ is compatable with VX or not, it probably is actually, with some minor edits for RGSS2 (but don't ask anyone to convert it for you, they will just laugh). XP is probably your best bet.
Netplay+ 1.6.3 is the easiest to set up and get running, but the server has a few game-and-server-crashing errors every so often. The maker didn't release the source code, and while he has now come back (at RPG Palace at least), he lost the sourcecode in a computer crash or something.
Netplay+ 2.0 is the most functional and the "best" one, but it's also the hardest to set up, and well... you seriously need to learn a lot of RGSS to be able to use it.
Then there's the option of making it yourself. Try looking at the "required" scripts of 1.6.3, and learn from them. By "required" scripts, I mean the ones that aren't just GUI additions, or gameplay additions; but the ones that make the game playable online (such as Sprite_Netplayer, Module Network, etc). Some things such as the TCP modules are ready made by Ruby (I found out Golden_Aurora3
did not make them, they simply put their name on them. They are found in the Ruby source files, accessible to
anybody.)
MMORPGs (or ORPGs in the case of RMXP) is a lot of work, long as you have a great design and fully planned ahead, you can find someone to help no problem! Fair warning though, people have a pessimistic outlook on people making MMOs/ORPGs, they say it will fail by default, so don't let it turn you away from your goal. Good luck, and just make sure to have a damn good design plan before doing anything.
I absolutely HATE this. It's true, everyone says this when they look at an online game project. The only reason people fail at them is because they don't get support, because people think they will fail.
I was going to make a system called Online RPG Admin, but... I don't have the time anymore that I wanted to put into the project unfortunately, as unseen events came up, and between working on an online system and my own game, my own one takes presidence unfortunately. This is the main problem: anybody who has the ability to make an online game, will make an online game, rather than an online gaming system. Or, they are now professional scripters / programmers with their own jobs or scripting to worry about.
