[Create!] View of the Frozen City

Hey guys! I know I'm very inactive on the forums (although I do visit everyday), I saw this contest and thought it would be good for getting back into drawing. I hope I'm doing this correctly.

Decided to do something like concept art. This would be the frozen city, which during when the world was freezing over, the old and no longer maintained dam broke and flooded the city in it's wake. Now with the world entering a new ice age, this is all that remains of the once-prosperous city.

Well, this is really fucking nice, except for the city, which lacks detail. Good job!

Well, first off, let me say that I really like this one. That being said, there are things that could be improved. Your foreground is far more detailed than the scene you're looking out upon, although that could easily be explained by fog and/or snow. However, the way you drew the scene in the background is completely wrong for that kind of obscuring scenery. Instead of relatively defined brushstrokes, it should have been more significantly blurred, with the strokes having more indefinite edges and the strokes becoming less definite the further back you went. Another thing to note is that I can tell that the city was drawn with a translucent brush, because it grows darker on overlapping strokes. That shouldn't happen at all. Instead, the stroke in the front should completely overlap the stroke behind, allowing no vision beyond it.

However, your setup for the foreground was very nice. While not perfect, it had a nice amount of detail, and you can easily tell that the person is standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking this ancient, abandoned city.
