COPYRIGHTS and all the BS!
i have noticed a bit of COPYRIGHT questions on here..
i heard it WAS LEGAL to sell the games you make with XP (if you LEGALLY OWN XP), then i hear it's not... It is IF YOU use your graphics etc..
i see NO SPECIFIC qualifications ANYWHERE and i mean ANYWHERE that I have PERSONALLY read.. i have seen LOTS of PERSONAL and WRONGFUL information being given out EVERYWHERE...
is it really worth making a game with this or not? if i LEGALLY own my copy of RPG Maker XP and i use it's graphics alone... then what's the issue... i see NO REASON not to be able to sell one's game(s).. boring or not.
and i quote DIRECTLY from: http://tkool.jp/products/rpgxp/eng/features.html
as far as POKEMON games go... you CANNOT distribute/sell your game legally with those EXACT characters... the rest doesn't mean a thing... the names are NOT copyrighted by any means. if you want a game character to have the name ASH.. go for it! he may LOOK SIMILAR BUT NOT EXACT! HOWEVER, if you want to make the POKEMON game(s) for yourself or GIVE THEM AWAY - you are safe to do so. you just CANNOT make ANY profits off of them.
basically as far as i recall, one MUST change said graphic by AT LEAST 30% before it is considered original and non-copyrighted.. but do NOT quote me on this, but it IS the GENERAL rule for ANY graphic ANYWHERE.
EDIT: Yes you may use your own icon for your games... As you are not altering the game maker itself!
Just MY 2 cents!

Distribute Your Games
Save your completed game as a game disk and you can burn it onto a CD-ROM to give to your friends or distribute it over the Internet for other gamers to enjoy. You can even market your creations as shareware.
