Connie, experimental

Well, I'm trying to make Illustrator work for me, so the traced version is kind of screwed-- my pencils aren't very good to begin with, but here's the original for comparison. (On another note completely, I think I'm gonna redraw the hiding arm, so you can see the weird way he's supposed to hold his other gun. It just really wasn't agreeing with me at the time of scanning.)

- Noted and resolvable issues include magenta residue on lines, line gaps, and coloring errors due to the previous. Heck, color is mostly a test.
- Noted and problematic issues include the crappy-ass gun, the entire cuffed arm, and pretty much anything else I can't see. Advice on such would be loved.
- Issues of general concern include the hips and legs-- not that sexualization is an issue (unless the curves are that bad)-- but I'm not sure if men work that way. Speaking of, outfit too gay? Color scheme whacked?

Hehe, my perceptions are totally flawed... I should get a monkey to go and trace my crap, because it's so lossy, it's not funny!

I think you should give more dimensions in the belts, because it seems like its completely attached to the jeans.

But i like the work!

Her top doesn't quite mesh with her bottom. She's too large on top IMO. Otherwise it doesn't look half bad.

STICK A DIGITAL TOOTHBRUSH DOWN HER THROAT.

Her? It's a man... GWAH! I didn't mean to make a trap, I swear, IswearIswear! *prays furiously*

'K, but anyway, I totally see the top-heavy thing. Was thinking that it was more of an issue of leg length than top width, but it's totally worth messing with both ways when I get home.

The sash wasn't doing much for me, either, so I'm going to try maybe integrate it into the plate-belt-things more. Because neither of their functions are exactly obvious, even to me. D:

He looks like a her because of the hour-glass shaped body. It wouldn't look so bad if the hips didn't curve in so much.
I really like the costume design.
Even though I think you did a good job drawing the feet, crossing the legs like that makes him look like he's hiding something (if you know what I mean)

Nice drawing, indeed it seems like a girl because of the size of the legs and body. and u need to give dimension to all, to make it look better, but the skills for the structure are very good

You'll need some kind of reference. The pose itself is feminine. The chest area has a slight bump on the sides that I thought were lines for breasts and thigh area is much too rounded. Men tend to be more straight lines and have broader shoulders. While they do go in at the hip as compared to the chest area their thighs don't really bellow out. In the face area if you are going for anime, guys have thicker eyebrows to define them as males more and they never have that extra line at the end that kinda looks like a triangle (the one that repersents eyelashes). The eyelash is usually the definer between males and females when you have the most girly guys and boyish girls. Take a look a few references and you'll do better.

@ Princess Shine:

I can actually see where you were going with the pose, but it did end up looking feminine. Also, is he wearing some kind of a jacket? I can't quite make out the red part of his shirt.

Speaking of the shirt, it looks great! The whole character design, in fact, looks very fun and intriguing. I'd love to see more poses or even sketches. It could help portray his look and personality better.

I've included an image of Canaan from Xenosaga because he has a similar pose to what you're going for. Maybe it'll help :)

It's the legs that were screaming female in the pose. Notice the example the legs are apart. Males don't have their legs like that usually because well it *ahem* squishes things.

I'm so happy to get such help! Besides my working on Conrad, I'm more aware of penis physics for the other guys, especially the ones in tighter pants, hehehe. I have to admit, a lot of this work I'm doing is so that I have a better handle on what I'm spriting, because I tried this guy once before, just ad-libbing his outfit, and it was totally bad. Tarfield was weird, too, but she's another story entirely.

In the end, I became really unsatisfied with the original-- I'm probably going to save the head for facesets and cut-ins, but I think the semi-revamp I did looks a bit better. It showcases his hilariously unique style of firing guns, anyway, where he's never holding both pistols properly at the same time. And how he doesn't really pay attention to what he's shooting at (well, sorta).

He somehow reminds me of Ashley from Wild ARMs 2, though! (But if anything, his style is more reminiscent of Beck, even if her "acrobatics" are weak.) I'm caught up in another design, though, so no clean version yet.

Love ya'll!

his right leg is a bit dunno why, but it looks better than the first
also his right arm, make it a little more visible in the shoulder part, to me it looks almost like a breast (side view) although in the wrong position.

Fix that and it would be fine :)

Eh, you mean the latest rough? I think the psuedo-boob you're seeing is one of my reference lines, sorrys. If you're not me, the whole thing is probably incredibly vague, but I wanted to try and catch some of my weirder errors before tracing it.

The new pose is so much more dynamic! Reminds me a lot of Calintz's pose (from Magna Carta 2: Tears of Blood), though it's a lot cleaner.

The line of the body is great, and you can now tell that it's a boy.

Good work :)

@ lunarea: Magna Carta? The one with the pretty art? *googles* Ooo, maybe you're right. That's weird, because I was photo referencing for part of the drawing, and that's just sorta how it came out. *shrug* HTK's work did help me get over my fear of feet, though!

@ busbuzz: As in costume-wise, or through the pose? In the case of the former, I'd have to deny that advice, because it's not within the character's personality, or the setting. In the case of the latter, it's true, I'm skimping out. But even then, it's really indicative of his fighting style-- everything is a trick shot. When I wrap my arm around my back like that, I can't see much, either.

Its indeed the pose, but think as a photographer if the pose is "the one" you just have to change the point of view, like the camera angle so u can see detailed that he has arms
