Computer problem

erm...dont know if I'm able to ask this but I'm having a trouble playing a game my uncle let me barrow....

its age of empire 2, and it was working fine before, but now when I start it up it will go to a black screen and I can hear the disk running, but then it suddenlt stops and gives me an error saying this....

Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your vidoe card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw...?

I dont know what it means but everything else seems to work ok.

and the only thing that happened inbetween is my sis and tryed to install an old computer game of my mothers, called Mummy Tomb of the Pharaoh. She installed it ok, but didnt click the install quick time, sence we already have it on the computer she told me. Then she says she couldnt play the game, because it needed quick time. She asked me then and I told her to install the quick time from the disk. After she did the game kept freezing up still, so she gave up, and uninstalled the quick time from the disk.... after that she tried to uninstall the game itself but for some reason it wouldnt. she couldnt find it on the start bar, or the add/remove programs dialog box.....

I think it had to do with something of quick time, can any one help. I'm afriad I just screwed the computer.... :(

i dont have much experience with computers but check your video driver/card and make sure they are not screwed. If you cant find any help there, search your problem on google or something. That usually works.
Sorry I can't be of much help. :(

I'd do what chuchan said and if that doesn't work you can always try using system restore and going back to a time before your sister installed the game.

It sounds to me like it's not seeing your video card as 3D capable. If it's an ATI video card, make sure you have the latest catalyst driver from ATI's website. If it's an nVidia card, make sure you have the latest forceware driver from nVidia's website.

If it's an onboard S3, SiS, or Intel card, it might not be powerful enough for that game.

well I know its powerfull enough, sence the graphics arnt that good on age of empires and I can play WoW just fine and everything else....for some reason only Age of empires was effected....I dont know, maybe it has something to do with mummy...I even deleted it and it still wont....wait....what the hell?! ':| odd...its working now..... >.>; sorry for the trouble guys...

although if some one could help me completly uninstal mummy that would be nice.... there was no instal for it, and my father said to try and delete it...but the memory didnt go up or down at all.... any help on that?

Or, you know, make sure DirectX is working right and is updated to 9.0c, make sure your drivers are updated, and if you installed the version of quicktime on a game that's several years old, go to the quicktime and get a decent version

earlier on wasn't it directdraw? if possible, you could download the directx reparation from Microsoft? or reinstall it from your game CD...so basically quicktime was installed but didn't appear in the registry. If there was quicktime you could open ::windir::\Program Files and delete quicktime there. The best solution is still restore your computer.
