Composition [with a nod to Fur Elise]

I've recently had the chance to write a song with connections to Beethoven's Fur Elise.

It borrows its header melody of "dadadada da da da daaa~~", but the rest is more or less independent of Fur Elise, and with a more non-classical approach (-ish); although it does revisit the header theme many times.

[ Please do not use it, thank you. c: And don't mind the knock at one point. ]

I found it to be quite an interesting experience to work with a classical reference. Anyone else made songs with a nod to famous classical tunes? Which ones? Feel free to post it.

Oh, feedback and stuff welcomed as well of course. Thank you for your time in advance.

Beautiful rendition I do say lad!  I have written on my guitar many nods to classical songs.  They sound so cool, especially with distortion....nothing like rocking out to Mozart!

Edit: ^^^^And its not until days later that I realize how corny this post sounds.^^^^

I like how somber it sounds; the string/flute counter melody is very nice, although I think it would sound better if it were a tad brighter. Overall, not much more to say. Its good :3

Thank you everyone.  And heheh, cool stuff mega. I think I've heard some pop songs using melodies from Mozart too; fun stuff.

@John:
I use Garritan Personal Orchestra for sound library, but if you were to get something I'd recommend EWQLSO gold. It's about 50% more expensive but folds better. I am going to try to get it myself in the future. c:

I think... you didn't get the point.. (but neither did Krishna.. xD)

..I think Krishna thought: "Hey, I know a song with a classical nod!".
So he/she posted it..
:)

Edit:
Oh, and you can hear the James Bond theme (suspensebuilding) clearly from 0:31 - 0:39 in the youtube link..

Yeah, um.

Um.

Um.

*cut self*

Thanks Samot, you're my savior for the day. That all makes sense now (ffs). And my original comment about the James Bond one was due the fact that I thought she meant that the song posted in the OP was like that; my bad and misunderstanding entirely.

Bad day at work + lack of sleep is what I blame.

No problem ;)

Oh, and while I'm at it..

The first time I heard that song.. (your rendition) I just.. listened.
When it was done playing.. I listened again..
And again..
And again..
...

Excellent.

Glad you enjoyed it! Lots of the credit on the hook goes to Fur Elise; I couldn't seem to create the same feel with attempts at other melodies with the same chord progression afterwards. D:

Oh, nothing just happened here by the way, guys. Reives didn't flip out or anything. Everything was cool here.

Nononono..
I gotta admit, it's a unique piece of music.. with an even more unique structure..
However..

I'm playing the piano for a while now, and I'm finally at a point where I can sit back and play.
Just.. play.. nothing in particular...

While doing that, the hardest part is creating a feeling in a piece, giving it atmosphere.
You've done a great job in doing that.
The melodic strings give the piece the right boost of 'Beethoven' that'd otherwise be done by the remainder of the original.

I won't say you're as great as Beethoven, but with this little piece of music, you've really done an excellent job.

Oh, I did get it, but I haven't made any songs with classical nods, but I will definitely try when I find the perfect thing to work on. I don't want the nod to be too obvious either. The thing was that I have been so fascinated by Septette to the Dead Princess that I have wanted to discuss it for a long time, and I took this thread as a cue to show it to someone, even if it meant breaking the thread's rules (only a little).

I really love that James Bond theme (I'll call it that), and I have seen it referenced in a lot of songs, namely "Surfin' USSR" by the Norwegian balkan jazz band Farmers Market and "Sacrifice" by Sound Horizon. Not only is it very suspense building as you said, but it sounds damn cool to boot. When I become a better composer I will be using it as a red thread through many of my works, that's for sure.

That was lovely Reives.  As I said in my message, it's been really fun witnessing the evolution of your work over the past year.  I think your compositions have a lot of heart and feeling; as compared to even a lot of folks in the industry that just try to evoke feeling based on the quality of their samples as opposed to the quality of their compositions.

Funny you should mention about songs with a nod to famous classical tunes... I worked on an EA game not too long ago that is using a bunch of classical remixes (convenient because you don't have to pay any royalties, hehe).  It's still in production so I'm not allowed to talk about it, but here is my "nod" to Edvard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King.

They requested a hip hop/jpop/pop feel to the remix, as you can see, hehe.  And for the Megaman fans, you'll be able to find a little hint of Heat Man in the bass line if you're extra observant :P  I'll also try to post my version of Dvorak's New World Symphony if I can find it (I made it for my Dad's birthday a couple years ago; he introduced me to it when I was little, and it really affected me).
