Community Division - What's the deal with all the little guys?

In all fairness, have you considered that starting a new RMXP site might have nothing to do with .org?

That paints a much clearer picture for me. Thanks for that. I thought the comments were aimed at this site's organization. So you are suggesting sister sites or unaffiliated sites which specialize in a particular craft of game creation, rather than unpopular clone sites?

@khmp:  Yeah, exactly.  That would be a way to both have fun and learn a little running your own forums and contribute to, rather than detract from, what's already being done well elsewhere.

@holloway: Honestly speaking, not really.  I mean, if a person randomly stumbled on RPG Maker XP, though it was just a brilliant idea, bought the software, got really down with it and went to make a site that had coincidentally almost an identical structure and goals to RMXP without actually ever coming across .org or any of the clone sites, er, more power to them, I would suggest they get familiar with a little thing called a "search engine" though

Anyways, I think I've chewed this one over and got down to a reasonable conclusion, and having little much else that I can possibly contribute, I'll say: thanks for the input / mental sparring, it's always good for working over a problem. 

Also as a note I've run into two more of these sites since starting this thread.  /sigh

Until recently, .org was pretty similar to some older RM sites.

Is it a waste of time/effort? Yeah. But hey, isn't doing anything on the interweb (outside investing or buying/selling) kind of a waste anyway?

starting a forum for the hell of it is stupid. if its an add-on of an actual site with an actual purpose, then ok.. whatever. but if youre just starting it in hopes that itll get big and HAR HAR HAR I CAN B& YOU XDDD then its a huge waste of internets.

Although a fair point my understanding is that .org was a result of some kind of schism/breakdown of .net (I stumbled in amidst the chaos and really didn't pay any attention to any of it).  .net seemed to be the premier English-speaking site at the time.
